Meet River - Little Yorkie with a BIG Personality

River is an absolutely adorable 5-month-old Yorkshire Terrier puppy with a curious little mind, a playful spirit, and enough personality to fill an entire house! River is one of our Yorkie babies born from Momma Rhea who was also a pure bred Yorkie, along with his daddy. Momma Rhea was surrendered to the rescue after her family found out she was pregnant. She was only a little over one-year-old and they were not ready to take on the responsibility of a litter even though they knew they had not gotten Rhea spayed. This is sadly the story many times over here in Houston, but their loss is your gain because Momma Rhea had five beautiful healthy babies and four have already been adopted locally here in Houston. River is the last to be adopted and ready for his furever home!

River may only weigh 8 pounds, but don’t let his tiny size fool you! This handsome little boy is bursting with energy, enthusiasm, and puppy charm. He’s a happy, friendly, inquisitive youngster who loves exploring his surroundings, playing with his toys, and being right in the middle of the action.

And when he’s finished playing? River absolutely loves being picked up, held, and showered with affection. He’s the perfect combination of a spirited little adventurer and a lovable cuddle companion.

River's Training & Compatibility:
- Friendly & Affectionate: Loves people, attention, and being held.
- Playful & Energetic: A lively little puppy who enjoys running, exploring, and playing tug-of-war.
- Curious & Intelligent: Always interested in what’s happening around him and eager to investigate new things.
- Treat-Motivated: Loves his treats, making positive reinforcement training a great opportunity.
- Dog-Friendly: Has done well with both small and large dogs.
- Cat-Friendly: Has been passive around cats and has not shown concerning behavior.
- Children: Has not yet been tested around children. Because of his small size and young age, a family that understands how to handle tiny puppies gently would be ideal.

River was born into a litter of five adorable Yorkie puppies, so he’s grown up surrounded by siblings, playtime, and plenty of puppy mischief! Along with other dogs big and small. And kitty cats.

One of his favorite activities is racing around the house and playing tug-of-war with his brothers and sisters. He’s curious about everything and loves investigating the world around him.

River is also very food-motivated and loves treats, which will be a wonderful advantage when it comes to training. Yorkshire Terriers are known for their intelligence, and River has all the potential to become a wonderful little companion with patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement.

He can also be a little vocal when he wants attention. After all, this little guy has a personality, and he’s not afraid to let you know when he’d like some love!

Vet Care:
- Neuter is scheduled for the end of October 2026
- Vaccinations are Current
- Will be Microchipped during Neuter
- On Prevention
- Health Certificate before transport

River is a young puppy, and his new family should be excited about helping him learn and grow. He is not yet fully house-trained, but he has been learning to use puppy pads. He does best with puppy pads secured inside a tray holder, as loose disposable pads can quickly become another one of his favorite shredding toys!

River is also still learning about walking on grass and exploring the outdoors. Because of the intense Texas summer heat, his foster family has been cautious about taking the puppies outside. He has not yet been leash-trained, so his new family will need to introduce him to leash walking with patience and encouragement.

River has experienced longer car rides, although he can become carsick during extended travel. Shorter trips seem to agree with him much better. And here’s another sweet little bonus: River does very well with bath time! With a loving family willing to provide structure, guidance, and plenty of affection, River has every opportunity to grow into a wonderful, well-mannered companion.
