Meet Ruger - Gentle, Affectionate Shadow

Ruger absolutely loves people. He doesn't necessarily need to be the center of attention, he's perfectly happy simply following his favorite person around the house and being wherever they are.

His foster family says that when they first brought him home, Ruger was understandably sad and withdrawn after being dumped. But within just a day or two, his true personality came shining through. He became their little shadow, following them around the house, cuddling on the couch, and wanting nothing more than to be near his people.

Ruger is incredibly chill and relaxed. He loves lounging on the couch, stretching out on blankets, snoozing in a recliner, or snuggling up next to you. He'll happily play with his brother or run around the backyard, but he's just as content to spend the afternoon relaxing. If there's a couch, chair, bed, or blanket available for cuddling? Ruger would like to know where he needs to sign up.

Ruger is also a great car rider. He settles down nicely and sometimes just wants a little attention from his human passengers.

Ruger is house-trained and knows the basics like Sit. He's not formally crate-trained, but he willingly goes into his kennel when it's time to eat and is very easygoing overall. He does pull a little on leash but walks well with some guidance. He's also working on his occasional greeting jumps. Ruger doesn't quite understand the concept of fetch yet, but he'll happily chase after a toy when it's thrown! His true talent is probably professional lounging and cuddling.

Ruger plays nicely with his brother, and has done well with the dogs he's been around. He has also been wonderful with children, including younger children. His family describes him as especially gentle with their younger child. He has not been tested with cats or small dogs, so those interactions are currently unknown. Ruger has shown no known protective behavior or resource guarding.

One of the sweetest things about Ruger? His foster family has never even heard him bark! He's an exceptionally calm, quiet boy who seems perfectly happy just being near his people.

Ruger would love a home with a good-sized, securely fenced yard where he can run and play, but what he really wants is a family who will make him part of their everyday life. He'd love someone who will take him on walks, give him plenty of affection, and let him curl up nearby when it's time to relax.

A comfy dog bed, open kennel, couch, or even a spot in your bed would all be perfectly acceptable in Ruger's book! Because he's already a big boy at 90 pounds and still growing, his future family should be prepared for the needs that come with owning a giant-breed puppy, including plenty of food, water, space, training, and continued socialization.

Ruger was sad and confused when he was first dumped, but once he realized he was safe, his personality blossomed. Now he's a sweet, gentle, incredibly affectionate boy who just wants to love his people and be loved in return.

His current family is preparing for a new baby and moving, and with two other Labs already at home, they believe finding Ruger and Savage their own families is the best decision for everyone. They would love nothing more than to see both Ruger and his brother treated as cherished family members.

And according to Ruger's foster family, his new home should be one where he gets to be treated like the king of the castle. Honestly, Ruger wouldn't have it any other way.
