DESCRIPTION

Hi, my name is Winnie! I'm a RED pawprint, which means I need an experienced home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:

-Personality: Timid, Curious, Playful
-Can Live with Kids: Unknown History, due to some handling sensitivities we are recommending dog-savvy respectful children ages 12+
-Can Live with Cats: Not Recommended. Reported history of chasing and fighting with cats in the previous home.
-Can Live with Dogs: Not Recommended at this time pending further testing at WHS.
-Can do Apartment Living: Yes with proper mental and physical plan in place.
-Potty Trained: Appears to be.
-Bite History: Nope.
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: Nope.
-Energy Level: Medium / High
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: Nope, good to go!

Winnie came into the shelter through no fault of her own, and unfortunately, she’s spent much of her life being shuffled from place to place. Because of that, she can be quite timid at first and is searching for a forever home that truly means forever this time. Winnie is looking for someone who understands that trust takes time. She will need a calm, understanding home that can give her the space and reassurance she deserves while she adjusts. Her future family should be prepared to provide lifelong care, including regular grooming, proper nutrition, veterinary care, and both mental and physical enrichment to help her thrive. Winnie is not a “turn-key” dog, she will need structure, routine, positive reinforcement, and patience as she learns to feel safe and secure in a new environment. What Winnie needs most is someone willing to see past her fear and give her the stability she’s never truly had.

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
