Antoine - Standard Poodle Dog for Adoption in Boulder, Colorado

There's nothing quite like young dog sweetness and silliness, and then they put their beautiful heads quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm breath. These gorgeous pups are so pure and vulnerable, with their whole lives lying in front of them, that it's unbearable to think of them homeless and alone on busy streets or in a high-kill shelter scheduled for euthanasia due to lack of space.

Antoine is a sweet as can be 3 and a half year old, 55 lb purebred Standard Poodle who is just waiting to be the love of a special family's life. Farfel's can't swear to the accuracy of this breed identification as no DNA test was done. This was the opinion of Texas veterinarians. All we know with certainty is that this snuggly guy is irresistible.

The Texas shelter had the following to brag about this sweet boy:
"Antoine is so friendly and obviously well trained! He sits, shakes, and lays down on command. He is a joy to be around and friendly with all the dogs as well. It's unbelievable that nobody came to reclaim him!"

Antoine, true to his breed, has a gorgeous, cottony-soft, non-shedding coat that is a gift to those with allergy concerns. He will therefore require a lifelong commitment to periodic grooming and excellent nutrition. Current research is very clear that a human-grade, fresh diet is the healthiest choice we can provide for our pets. Farfel's has had personal experience and therefore highly recommends Chi Diet (chidog.com) for far fewer vet visits and a long and healthy life for our best friends.

Antoine, once comfortable in his new surroundings, is appropriately playful and inquisitive for his young age. He's also very loving and cuddly once over the long transport from New Mexico to Colorado. This snuggly guy would be very excited to be a couch potato and snuggle with his favorite people at the end of a busy and active day. Even at just 1 year old, it's clear that this guy is SO smart and very sweet - typical of the Standard Poodle personality. Some would say that this breed is one of most loving and intelligent family dogs in the canine population.

Since Antoine is just a young guy, he's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show him the way. He has all the potential in the world to be an awesome adult companion. Sweet Antoine will form firm bonds with his family and learn positive socialization skills through virtual or in-person positive reinforcement / force-free Obedience Classes. These classes will make a profound difference in a young dog's ultimate behavior and in his relationship / bonding with his people. It does take time and commitment yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior.

Farfel's Rescue feels very strongly that every dog deserves the opportunity for formal training classes. We therefore aren't willing to adopt Antoine out to a home that doesn't choose to offer him this training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved virtual and in-person positive reinforcement / force-free trainers in your area.

We would love to see our sweet Antoine in a home with a dog-crazy family (older kids preferred so there's no tail-pulling or awkward handling) or active retirees who have the time and love for a very sweet dog. We'd hate to see this social pup left alone all day while his family works full-time outside of the home. We think he's too sensitive for that kind of arrangement. He's such an amazing dog and just the right size to nap under the desk while his people are working or to accompany his favorite people just about anywhere a well-behaved dog is welcome..and would absolutely love it.

Antoine will be up to date on his vetting / vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to adopting out only healthy dogs. He has also been neutered to support our work in zero population growth in the canine community.

Working with a dedicated team of volunteers, the dogs are pulled from high-kill shelters because they’ve been recognized for the gifts they will bring to a loving family. They are then transported by specially licensed vans to Colorado for a second chance at life.
