Meet Oswald!
Shih Tzu mix · 9 years · ~15 lbs · Alabama → Lower Manhattan (July 18)
Oswald has traveled a long way to get here — and this gentleman deserves a proper welcome.
A 9-year-old Shih Tzu mix arriving all the way from Alabama, Oswald is the kind of senior dog that makes you wonder how on earth he hasn't been scooped up already. Friendly with people, friendly with dogs, and likely to make peace with a cat given a slow and patient introduction — he is, by all accounts, an easy guy to love.
What Oswald needs most right now is simple: somewhere calm to decompress for a couple of days while he gets his bearings in a brand new city. New sights, new smells, new everything — a quiet home with a mellow energy will mean the world to him in those first few days. A laid-back canine companion to show him the ropes would be a lovely bonus.
He's otherwise healthy and in good shape for a nine-year-old — though he'll likely need a vet visit down the line to check in on his eyes. He's had a previous eye surgery and may have some chronic dryness that prescription drops would manage easily. Nothing complicated, just a small thing worth staying on top of. His foster family will want to keep an eye on it — pun very much intended.
Oswald will benefit from continued work on house training, leash manners, and basic obedience throughout his foster stay — which means his foster family gets the joy of watching him grow and settle in real time. Senior dogs often surprise people. They're grateful in a way that younger dogs simply aren't yet. Give Oswald a soft place to land, a little patience, and the chance to show you who he is. We have a feeling he'll make it very easy.
