Rosey — One Year Old and Still Waiting for Her First Home

Rosey is only one year old. And she has already spent half of her life waiting for a home.

She and her two sisters were born on the streets of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. When rescuers found them during a TNR effort, they were just five or six months old — three young puppies trying to survive in a world that had never given them a home.

They were taken off the streets and brought to safety.

That was six months ago.

Her sisters are still with her. The shelter has kept them safe, fed and cared for. But Rosey has never known what it feels like to be "someone’s dog".

She has never had her own bed in a home. Never learned the sound of one particular person coming through the door. Never discovered that there can be a favorite spot on the sofa, a hand that reaches down just for her, or a family she can trust will still be there tomorrow.

And Rosey is the kind of dog who may need those things most.

She is shy and quiet, but so very sweet. She lets you touch her and pet her. She is remarkably calm, gentle and laid-back. There is no hardness in this little girl — just a softness that hasn’t yet had the chance to fully unfold.

What Rosey needs now is something a shelter simply cannot give her enough of– someone.

Someone who will sit beside her without asking anything of her. Someone who will give her affection and patience until she realizes she doesn’t have to be afraid. Someone who will watch the shy little dog begin to trust, then begin to play, then one day realize that this is her home and these are her people.

There is a whole dog inside Rosey that the world hasn’t gotten to meet yet.

At one year old, she should have so many firsts still ahead of her.

Her first home.

Her first person.

Her first place where she falls asleep knowing she belongs.
