Daisy — One Year Old and So Ready to Be Someone’s Girl

Daisy is only one year old, but she has already spent half of her life in a shelter.

She and her two sisters were born on the streets of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. When rescuers discovered them during a TNR effort, they were just five or six months old — three young puppies who had never known the security of a home.

The rescuers couldn't put them back on the street.

So Daisy came to the shelter.

And she has been waiting there ever since.

Six months is a long time when you’ve only been alive for twelve.

But somehow, Daisy hasn't let all that waiting dim her light.

She is an incredibly friendly, happy, affectionate girl who loves people and is always ready to say hello. She is gentle, lovable and smart, with the kind of openhearted sweetness that makes you wonder how no one has chosen her yet.

Daisy does still have a little puppy enthusiasm to polish — especially learning that she doesn't need to jump up to say hello! But she's bright, eager and ready to learn. What she hasn't had is someone of her own with the time to teach her.

Because while a shelter can keep a dog safe, it can't give her all the things that come with being part of a family.

Daisy has spent the second half of her puppyhood watching people come and go.

She should be learning where her favorite sunny spot is in the house. She should know the sound of her name being called from another room. She should have a favorite toy, a familiar walking route, and someone whose arrival at the end of the day makes her whole body wiggle.

Instead, she's still waiting.

And every day, she greets the world as if today might finally be the day.

Daisy doesn't need anyone to teach her how to love people. She already knows how to do that beautifully.

She just needs someone who will love her back — and finally take her home.
