Cherry comes to us all the way from Kentucky. This poor girl wound up at an animal control in a rural area last December. When she arrived there, she had a condition known as "cherry eye" in both of her eyes. "Cherry eye" looks alarming but is typically not painful; it is when the gland of a dog's third eyelid slips out of place and in severe cases, it stays there, covering much of the dog's eyes with a red bulge!
Cherry's previous owners likely did not have the resources to address her eyes as they got worse and worse. Thankfully the kind volunteers at the shelter pooled their money to get Cherry's eyes fixed, and now she is healed and as happy a girl as ever!
Despite the adversities she has faced, Cherry remains one of the happiest and most ebullient dogs we have ever met! She is enthusiastic about making new human and dog friends. She is very slight of frame at only around 35 lbs, so she is easy to handle on leash, and also incredible to watch run! She seems as light as air as she races around our play yard. No dogs can catch her, so naturally "chase" is her favorite game to play... since she always wins!
Cherry is also a bonafide "water dog"- she loves the baby pool, the sprinkler, and the lake- as you can see in her videos! A volunteer recently took her out for the whole day and they had a great adventure going to Starbucks for a pup cup, the forest preserve for a long walk, and then Fort Sheridan for a dip in Lake Michigan. She was such a great sidekick!
Cherry recently spent time in a foster home where she was overall a very good girl! She only had one accident and was otherwise house trained. She took to the crate easily, settling in there overnight and during the day for 2-3 hours with no issues. Her fosters said she charmed everyone and really knows how to "kiss up" to people! They write, "She's like the wind! Cherry definitely has some Greyhound type genes. When she goes out the first time in the morning it's zoomies for 3-5 minutes, then she slows down and is ready for inside time. Cherry knows how to kiss up to new people. She leans in, gives a hug and face kisses if you get close enough!"
Cherry is an affectionate, loving, and of course, a very deserving girl. We can't wait to see Cherry get the happy ending she deserves. Please ask about her today.
Cherry's adoption fee is $300. She is spayed up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
