Meet #Pixie
This sweet girl has been through more than any dog ever should, and our hearts truly ache for her.
When Pixie first arrived, she was absolutely terrified , sitting quietly in her kennel, overwhelmed by the noise and unfamiliar faces around her. You could see the sadness in her eyes, like she was trying to understand how she ended up here.
Pixie was safely trapped by our wonderful friend of the shelter after being on her own for some time.
She was given the chance to decompress in a foster home, and while she tried her best, we’ve learned more about what Pixie truly needs to succeed. Sometimes it’s no one’s fault , it just means we understand her better now.
Pixie is a dog who really thrives when she can be the center of attention. She bonds deeply with her person and wants all of that love for herself. Because of this, we feel she would do best as the only pet in the home where she can fully relax and not feel the need to compete.
Pixie can be excitable and a bit overpowering at times. She has shown some behaviors like jumping up toward faces (without making contact), so we would recommend a home without small children, or with older, respectful kids who understand boundaries.
Here’s what we’ve learned about our girl:
• Doesn’t mind cats — curious but no aggression
• Loves to chase squirrels and rabbits
• Because of her prey drive, a secure fenced-in yard would be a great outlet for her energy
• Has pretty good recall… unless she’s on an important squirrel mission
Pixie will need time, patience, and understanding to fully trust again — but for the right person, she will be an incredibly loyal and loving companion.
She is about 3 years old, around 50 lbs, and is scheduled to be spayed — ready for her fresh start.
