Anthony
Another unfortunate owner surrender.
We wish we could say it gets easier, but it doesn’t.
What these dogs go through when they land here… it’s a completely different world than the one they knew.
One day they’re in a home, familiar smells, familiar people… and the next?
Loud kennels, strangers, confusion, fear.
It shows in everything they do.
Anthony is feeling all of that right now.
He came to us after being outside for a few days, too scared to even leave his doghouse. He stayed tucked away, unsure of everything around him. It wasn’t until one of our male volunteers gently gained his trust that Anthony allowed himself to be picked up… and carried inside. That’s how he made it through our doors—being held, because he didn’t know any other way.
Right now, he’s shut down.
Tail tucked so tightly between his legs…
Unsure.
Quietly watching the world go by.
But… we see it.
That tiny little tail wag.
Even with all that fear, even with everything he’s feeling—he still gives us that small sign that he wants to trust. He wants to believe he’s safe. And that right there? That’s everything.
We know he’ll come around. We know there’s more to Anthony.
But right now… he’s just not there yet. And that’s okay.
What Anthony needs is patience.
Someone willing to go slow.
Someone who understands that trust is built in quiet moments, not rushed ones.
We won’t give up on him.
Not for a second.
But we would love nothing more than for someone out there to give him the chance we know he deserves… the chance to heal, to feel safe, and to be someone’s dog again.
If you’ve ever helped a scared dog find their confidence… Anthony is waiting for you.
