Zoey - Husky Dog for Adoption in New Orleans, Louisiana

Zoey is a 6-year-old, 58-pound Siberian Husky who appears to have misplaced several pages of the standard Husky operating manual. She is supernaturally sweet, friendly with people, dog friendly, fully house trained, beautifully behaved, and pretty dang accomplished at basic training skills. Sit? Absolutely. General cooperation? Weirdly strong. Creating an operatic hostage situation because someone touched the front door? Apparently not her chosen medium.

She's affectionate, intelligent, and exceedingly companionable, with the kind of sweetness that feels almost suspicious coming from an animal whose ancestors were engineered to drag humans across frozen continents. Zoey would much rather be with her people than independently pursuing some elaborate side quest. Being left alone is difficult for her, so she'll thrive with someone who is home often. A secure yard is important for Zoey, giving those long Husky legs somewhere appropriate to conduct their business.

Dogs are friends. Cats and small animals are a hard no. Her prey drive is very real, and squirrels have discovered that Zoey does not recognize their diplomatic immunity. No cats, no small mammals, and perhaps no squirrel ambassadors attempting peace negotiations.

Zoey is spayed, current on vaccines and preventatives, and has IVDD, a spinal-disc condition that in her case is easily managed with a daily joint supplement and isn't slowing her down. Because slipping could reinjure her back, she also needs good traction at home rather than exposed hardwood or tile floors, so rugs or other nonslip surfaces are important. A fairly minor household accommodation for an otherwise spectacular amount of dog.

She isn't crate trained, but she is fully housebroken and accustomed to having freedom in the home. When left alone, she may dig, because apparently even an exceptionally good girl requires one mildly felonious hobby.

At six, Zoey has reached the magnificent Husky epoch where the beauty remains cinematic, the intelligence is fully operational, and a respectable amount of the youthful chaos has left the building.

Sweet. Trained. Dog friendly. Housebroken. Gorgeous. Mildly anti-squirrel.

All known details about our animals are posted on their profile and updated daily. Other info will be discussed in detail with the foster during the application review process. Due to the high volume of introductions/questions received we ask you to submit an application (that application can be used for any dog with Take Paws Rescue).

The adoption fee for adult dogs covers age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, spay/neuter if not yet performed, heartworm test & appropriate heartworm treatment by the rescue's vet. All dogs in our care are also kept up-to-date on HW/Flea Prevention.

The husky breed is renowned for its striking appearance, characterized by piercing eyes and a thick double coat.
