Meet Misty
Misty is an approximately 4-year-old, 10kg (~22lb) cocker spaniel with a gentle nature and a quiet way about her. After a difficult start in a puppy mill, she is ready for her next chapter which will be much brighter. Misty has her spay appointment next week and after that she'll be looking forward to a future that includes soft places to rest, space to explore, and a home that allows her to move at her own pace.
Misty is a sensitive dog who is still learning that people can be safe and predictable. She does best in a quieter adult home where things are steady and not too busy. New people and lots of movement can feel overwhelming, and she may take time to warm up. When given that space, she begins to seek out connection in her own way, leaning into chest scratches, enjoying brushing, and relaxing when someone sits with her on the floor. She currently prefers her own bed at night and has not yet discovered furniture as an option.
Outdoors is where Misty feels most comfortable. A securely fenced yard will be important for her, as she enjoys sniffing, sunbathing, and running. She has started to play with familiar dogs and people, especially in games of chase. Walks are still a work in progress. Quiet trails are far more her speed, city streets can be overwhelming. With time, routine, and positive reinforcement, she has the potential to become a steady companion for low-key outdoor adventures.
Misty has done very well with housetraining and settles nicely when left on her own. She travels well in the car, though she will need continued support to feel confident getting in and out. At the veterinary clinic, she has earned high praise from the team, happily accepting treats during exams and even stepping onto the scale on her own.
She is currently being treated for an ear infection and will need ongoing ear care. While it may not be her favourite activity, she enjoys treats during ear cleaning and has come to associate it with a good ear rub afterward which is something she loves.
Misty has not been tested with cats, but she shows a strong interest in small animals and would not be suited to a home with rabbits, guinea pigs, or similar companions.
Misty is looking for a patient, thoughtful home that understands progress may come in small steps. In return, she offers quiet companionship and the chance to watch a dog discover comfort, safety, and connection on her own terms.
