Meet Sparky!
Sometimes the bravest little dogs are the ones who need a little extra time to let their hearts open up.
Sparky is a 5-year-old Chihuahua mix weighing just 7 pounds, but his journey has been a big one. He came to Dogworks after being surrendered to a local shelter, where he had been living in a truck cab with seven other dogs. When he first arrived at his foster home, the world was a pretty scary place for this little guy. He was frightened, uncomfortable with being touched or handled, and spent most of his time tucked away in an open crate where he felt safe.
His foster gave him something he desperately needed: time, patience, and the freedom to come out of his shell at his own pace. For about a week and a half, Sparky needed a leash to help him feel comfortable coming in and out of the house. And then, little by little, things started to change.
Today, Sparky is a different little dog! He now follows his foster around the house, enjoys being part of the daily routine, and has even been known to hop up onto his foster’s lap now and then. He still isn’t a fan of being picked up, so his new family will need to respect his boundaries and let him continue building confidence at his own pace. Watching him learn to trust and discover the comforts of being a loved little dog has been such a rewarding journey.
Sparky has some wonderful qualities, too! He’s crate trained, sleeps quietly through the night in his crate, has very few accidents, and walks beautifully on a leash. He currently lives with other foster dogs but hasn’t shown a great deal of interest in them. We think he could do well in a home with other respectful dogs or as the only dog in the household.
Sparky doesn’t need someone to change who he is. He needs someone who understands that trust takes time and that love doesn’t have to be rushed. He may never be the little guy who wants to be carried around all day, but imagine the feeling of having a tiny dog who once hid from the world choosing to follow you simply because he wants to be near you.
Could you be Sparky’s safe place? He deserves a home where he can continue to grow, feel secure, and enjoy all the little things that make life wonderful. If you have a little patience and a lot of love to give, Sparky might just be the perfect little companion for you.
He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped , and is on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention.
His adoption fee is $350
