Meet Zeke!

Zeke is an absolutely stunning 8-month-old long-haired Chihuahua mix weighing only about 5 pounds, and while everyone who meets him instantly falls in love with his adorable looks, this little guy’s story is about so much more than that. Zeke has had a very rough start to life, and it’s clear that someone let him down before he ever had the chance to feel safe and loved.

Found abandoned as a stray, Zeke came into rescue terrified of the world around him. He is very head shy, nervous with new people, and can be a bit sassy and nippy at first because he’s scared. Everything about him says he’s learned not to trust easily. Because of this, Zeke will need an incredibly patient, understanding adopter who is willing to go slow, respect his boundaries, and give him the time he needs to realize that he is finally safe.

But underneath all that fear is a tiny puppy who desperately wants love.

Once Zeke begins to trust you, he becomes incredibly attached and affectionate. He wants to be close to his person and truly blossoms when he feels secure. At only 8 months old, he is still so young, and we absolutely believe that with patience, consistency, and kindness, his confidence will continue to grow tremendously over time.

Zeke would do best in a calm, adult-only home with no children due to his fearful behavior and tendency to nip when overwhelmed. He has done well with the dogs and cats in his foster home and may especially benefit from having a calm, confident dog companion who can help show him that the world isn’t such a scary place. While very large dogs can make him a little nervous, he has not shown aggression toward them.

He currently sleeps in a playpen at night and uses potty pads in his pen area successfully.

Zeke is going to be neutered, up to date on vaccines, and will come with a health certificate prior to adoption.

This little boy deserves a true second chance — a home that will see past his fear, give him the patience he needs, and help him finally become the happy, confident dog he was always meant to be.
