Midge, affectionately known as Midge-a-roni, is proof that resilience comes in the tiniest packages. At 4 years old, this spayed, 15-pound Chihuahua mix has overcome more than most dogs ever should. With her pointy ears, beautiful brindle coat, and expressive eyes that always seem to say, "Wait... really?", Midge has a look and personality that's impossible not to fall in love with.

Midge is being fostered in Austin, Texas and is available for adoption out of state. Transport can be arranged by the rescue once matched with an approved adopter. The adoption process includes an application, phone interview, video call with the foster home, virtual home visit, and vet and personal reference checks.

Before coming into rescue, Midge was rescued from an 80-dog hoarding situation in Houston, where she was living among piles of trash with little stability or individual attention. She also arrived with severe mange, but thanks to months of love, medical care, and good nutrition, her skin has healed beautifully and a healthy new coat is growing in. She's also had a full dental since entering rescue, so she's feeling better than ever. Despite everything she's been through, Midge has made incredible progress and continues to blossom every single day.

Midge has a sweet, gentle personality and forms incredibly deep bonds with her people. She's the definition of a Velcro dog and is happiest curled up beside you, following you from room to room, or snuggled up on the couch. If she had to choose between just about anything and spending time with her favorite human, she'd choose you every single time.

One of Midge's most endearing quirks is her signature greeting. When she's excited, she'll do the cutest little hop toward you while stretching out her front left paw, almost like she's giving you a playful high-five or saying, "Hey! Don't forget about me!" It's impossible not to smile when she does it.

Midge currently lives with many other dogs in her foster home and does well with them. She can be a little nervous when meeting new dogs, so slow, thoughtful introductions are important. Once she's comfortable, she enjoys having canine companions around, though she sometimes forgets about personal space herself. Because of that, she'd do best with another well-balanced dog who is confident, patient, and respectful of boundaries. She would also be perfectly happy as an only dog, soaking up all of her family's attention.

She can also be a little shy when meeting new people, but she warms up quickly once she realizes she's safe. Once you've earned her trust, you'll have a loyal little shadow who simply wants to be wherever you are.

Midge is crate trained, though she'd much rather be relaxing with her people if given the choice. She's trustworthy when left loose in the house and has earned the freedom to enjoy life outside the crate. She walks nicely on leash and enjoys getting out for strolls, although she can occasionally be a little nervous in unfamiliar situations. She also gets anxious in the car, so her future family should be prepared to help continue building her confidence with positive experiences.

Energy-wise, Midge is the perfect balance. She loves running around the yard, exploring, and having little bursts of play, but she's just as happy curling up for a cozy nap afterward. Whether you're looking for a walking buddy or a cuddle buddy, she's happy to be both.

Because Midge bonds so deeply with her people, she'd do best in a home where someone is around more often than not. She's looking for a family that wants a true companion, someone who enjoys having a little dog by their side through all of life's everyday moments.

Midge hasn't been introduced to cats or children, so we can't say for certain how she'd do with them. A patient home that continues building her confidence while respecting her gentle nature will help her continue to thrive.

After everything she's been through, Midge is more than ready for a soft bed, a loving lap, and a family she never has to lose again. If you're looking for a loyal little sidekick with a huge heart, expressive eyes, and the cutest little hop you've ever seen, Midge-a-roni just might be your perfect match.
