Meet HUGO!
Hugo is approximately 10 lbs and estimated to be between 2 or 3 years old. He's a perfect size to fit in a bag and is very portable. He's clearly a chihuahua mix but we don't know for sure with what - perhaps terrier? He is SOOOO endearing and has wide little eyes, furry ears, and a little underbite. WE LOVE HIM.
Hugo is a sweet, smart, quiet and gentle soul!
Hugo is currently being fostered in a home with both dogs and cats (several dogs of varying sizes and ages and 3 cats) and he is great with them all. Amusingly, he is actually scared of the cats and we have observed the cats actually chasing HIM away which is the opposite of what we are used to seeing! ;) Hugo has also been in another foster home with multiple dogs including a large pit bull mix and was equally good with them. Prior to him going into foster, he lived with 20+ other dogs. Because of his exposure to so many dogs, he is well-socialized and takes social cues very well!
Hugo has no resource guarding behaviors whatsoever. He allows the cats to come and eat his food (probably not willingly but he lets them!) and you can take his food away without any issue.
He is 100% house trained. He even signals at the door to let you know when he has to go out. He's very smart and knows how to communicate well.
Hugo also enjoys toys and can often be caught entertaining himself with a squeaky or chew toy, legs splooted behind him.
Splooting is his signature move! He often does this and it is so darn cute!
He has been great with every human he's met so far and while we have not had the opportunity to observe any interaction with young children, based on his sweet gentle demeanor we think he would be fine with them. He is never aggressive; on the contrary, he is gentle and reserved.
He is shy when first meeting someone new and will sit on his little bed and observe but once he opens up, he will gladly accept belly rubs and cuddles. He does allow belly rubs from new people too but you can tell he's just a little hesitant if he doesn't know you. You can tell he is definitely curious about new people and likes to be in their company but needs a moment to come around. He's the kind of dog that will be your BFF and little shadow when he feels comfortable.
Hugo is also not a barker! He would be good in an apartment!
Food wise, he loves to eat fresh chicken pieces; his foster prepares it for him and he will eat out of her hand!
He does not have any separation anxiety that we've seen and can be left alone without issue. Right now he isn't crated but he is kept in a gated area when left alone. He doesn't destroy anything or bark.
At night he is used to being crated or gated and he sleeps soundly throughout the night.
His foster is also working on leash walking with him and he's doing so well! He walks at a nice pace on the leash and currently will stay at your side or slightly behind. He is getting used to new sounds and smells along the walk.
He is neutered, vaccinated, fecal negative, heartworm negative and is ready to find his forever home!
*Anyone interested in him can have a virtual call with the foster as well!*

We strive for our dogs to be adopted into the right home. The best fit for the dog is our priority.
Please make sure you are ready to properly exercise and give a dog all it needs for fulfillment. Your ongoing time and day-to-day commitment are the most important things in caring for a dog.
In addition, we cannot guarantee breed of any dog, exact age or expected adult size of a puppy. Please note that even house-trained dogs will need help transitioning to an adopter's home and schedule. Thank you for understanding.
