Chihuahua and Smooth Fox Terrier Dogs Available for Adoption in Boulder, Colorado

There's nothing quite like the fun and silliness of a sweet young dog...and then they put their heads quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm breath. These very loving young dogs are so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think of them homeless and hungry or in a high-kill shelter with euthanasia pending due to lack of space.

Chai, at just about 4 months old and 4 lbs (anticipated to be approximately 8 pounds when full-grown) was facing the end of her life before it ever began. Farfel's Texas rescuers are compassionate and loving and couldn't turn their backs on this gorgeous girl with the great temperament. They rescued Chai just in the nick of time to spare her life.

Sweet Chai is starting out with great energy. The excellent results of her temperament-testing ended with a transport ticket to Colorado and a brand new life. She's also very beautiful with gorgeous dark eyes displaying wisdom far beyond her years.

Our sweet Chai has a stunning smooth as silk coat that speaks of her breed mix. Sadly, her hair is currently shelter-tired but once on a regular protocol of care, it will be gorgeous with excellent health. This sweet girl will require a lifelong commitment to periodic baths / brushing and excellent nutrition (5 star food and a salmon oil supplement for hair care) to keep her coat cottony-soft and very healthy.

Chai, while initially shy due to all the changes in her life, is appropriately playful and inquisitive for her young age. She's also so loving and cuddly. This little girl would be very excited to be a couch potato and snuggle with her favorite people at the end of an active day. She's also SO smart and engaging - very typical of a Chi mix (with a bit of Terrier for that extra cuteness). Many would say the Chihuahua and Terrier breeds are among the most intelligent and cuddly in the dog world.

Since Chai is just a young pup, she's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show her the way. She has all the potential in the world to be an awesome family companion. Chai will form firm bonds with her family (as well as other dogs and humans) and learn positive socialization skills through virtual or in-person positive reinforcement training classes. This training experience will make a profound difference in a dog's behavior and their relationship with their people. It does take time and commitment yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior.

We feel very strongly that every dog and their family deserves the opportunity for formal, positive reinforcement training classes. We therefore aren't willing to adopt Chai out to a home that doesn't choose to offer her this training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved virtual or in-person positive reinforcement / force-free trainers in your area.

We're open to Chai finding her forever home with a retired couple or individual with lots of energy to train and enjoy a silly and super-sweet pup. Chai enjoys her relationships with all humans and dogs, we would prefer however, to place her in a home with older kids only (tail pulling or rough treatment by young kids will create an adult dog that's fearful of children). Older kids can be active participants in a training regimen and friendship that's so important in a dog's development. Chai enjoys her relationships with other dogs as well and would love playing hard and enjoying the sunshine with a canine friend on a beautiful day.

Chai will be up to date on her vetting / vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to adopting out only healthy dogs. She has also been spayed in our quest to create a euthanasia-free future in the canine population.

Farfel’s Farm & Rescue was founded on the idea that each dog deserves a loving home and the chance for a happy life. We are so thrilled to be able to rescue these amazing dogs from urgent situations in Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas and Cancun, Mexico. Working with a dedicated team of volunteers, the dogs are pulled from high-kill shelters because they’ve been recognized for the gifts they will bring to a loving family. They are then transported by specially licensed vans to Colorado for a second chance at life. The dogs are evaluated and treated for any medical issues before being transitioned to their new family, where they can become accustomed to having a family’s love, a warm bed and plenty of healthy food!
