Leo - Chihuahua and Fox Terrier Dog Available for Adoption in Boulder, Colorado

LEO

Chihuahua, Fox Terrier
🇺🇸
Boulder, Colorado
April 20th
male, small, young

DESCRIPTION

There's nothing quite like puppy sweetness and silliness...and then they put their beautiful heads quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm breath. These gorgeous puppies are so pure and vulnerable (with their whole lives lying in front of them) that it's unbearable to think of them homeless and alone or in a high-kill shelter scheduled for euthanasia due to a lack of space.

Leo is a stunning 6 month old, 16 lb Chihuahua / Fox Terrier mix that is just waiting to be the love of a special family's life. Leo is anticipated to be a smaller - sized guy at approximately 20 lbs, but very difficult to say with certainty at such a young age.

Leo is starting out with great energy. While initially shy, this sweet puppy is blossoming in his foster home as he learns about living in a safe and nurturing environment with love and kindness . Now at 6 months old, Leo's self esteem is growing each day as he learns that he's a very valuable guy that has so much to offer a dog-loving family.

Leo's coat is currently shelter-sad. This gorgeous guy's forever family will need to make a lifelong commitment to periodic baths / brushing and excellent nutrition. 5 star food and a daily salmon oil supplement are perfect lifelong protocols for general longevity and hair care to keep our sweet guy's coat super-healthy, shining and as soft as cotton.

Leo is appropriately playful and inquisitive for his young age. He's also so loving and cuddly once he's comfortable in his environment. This snuggly little guy would be very excited to be a couch potato and snuggle with his favorite people at the end of an active day. Even at just 6 months old, it's clear that this pup is SO smart and very sweet - very typical of the Chi and Terrier personalities. Many would say these two breeds are the most loyal and snuggly breeds in the dog world.

Since Leo is just a puppy, he's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show him the way. He has all the potential in the world to be an awesome adult companion - Leo will form firm bonds with his family and learn positive socialization skills through virtual or in-person positive reinforcement training classes. These classes will make a profound difference in a puppy's ultimate behavior and in his relationship / bonding with his people. It does take time and commitment yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior.

Farfel's Rescue feels very strongly that every dog deserves the opportunity for formal, positive reinforcement/force-free training classes. We therefore aren't willing to adopt Leo out to a home that doesn't choose to offer him this training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved virtual and in-person positive reinforcement / force-free trainers in your area.

We're open to Leo finding his forever home with a retired couple or individual with lots of energy to train and enjoy a silly and super-smart puppy. A younger family that works from a home-based office would also be a great choice for a dog that would love nothing more than getting loved up periodically throughout the day. Leo enjoys his relationships with all humans and dogs. We would prefer, however, to place him in a home with older kids (tail pulling or rough treatment will create an adult dog that's fearful of children). Older kids can also be active participants in a training regimen and friendship that's so important in a dog's development.

Leo will be up to date on his vetting/vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs. He will also be neutered to support our hopes for a euthanasia - free future due to overpopulation in the canine population.

Applications are currently being accepted for this stunning and sweet as can be puppy who is learning about love and acceptance in his life. An adoption application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit.

**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Leo, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.

FARFEL'S FARM & RESCUE: DOG SHELTER & RESCUE

Farfel’s Farm & Rescue was founded on the idea that each dog deserves a loving home and the chance for a happy life. We are so thrilled to be able to rescue these amazing dogs from urgent situations in Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas and Cancun, Mexico. Working with a dedicated team of volunteers, the dogs are pulled from high-kill shelters because they’ve been recognized for the gifts they will bring to a loving family. They are then transported by specially licensed vans to Colorado for a second chance at life. The dogs are evaluated and treated for any medical issues before being transitioned to their new family, where they can become accustomed to having a family’s love, a warm bed and plenty of healthy food!
