Meet Jake & Peanut! Jake and Peanut are an adorable bonded pair of Chihuahua mixes who are searching for a loving forever home, together.
Jake is the light brown one, and he is 3 years old and 15 lbs. Peanut is the Gray one, and he is 3 years old and 7 lbs.

These sweet boys have been through more than any dog ever should. Their lives were turned upside down when their home burned down... and yes, they were inside. Thankfully, both Jake and Peanut made it out safely, but their family had lost everything and had to relinquish them to a shelter in New Mexico. When Jake and Peanut got dropped at the shelter, they still smelled like smoke.
Luckily, these 2 boys are very resilient and have each other through it all. Now they are in a foster home in Colorado, and they are thriving!

Jake and Peanut have lived together their entire lives, and their connection is incredibly special. They bring each other comfort, confidence, and joy. In their foster home, they continue to thrive side by side. They’re happy, friendly, and social little guys. Both are very very very sweet and love to sit on your lap for cuddles. They also cuddle each other if no human laps are available.

From Jake and Peanut's foster:
"I love Jake and Peanut!! They are so funny, and have such big personalities!
They adapted into my house routine literally immediately! They are SO adaptable!
They are both potty trained. They both get along great with all the other dogs in the house too!
They sleep in bed with me and my dogs (and love to snuggle) but they also do well in a crate (together in the same crate) if you'd prefer.
They are very easy going. They come to work with me and do well saying hi to customers all day! When first approached by a stranger, they do a little tiny boof (not quite a bark) but once the person reaches down to them, they go right up and ask for pets! Jake (the tan one) will try to make out with everyone he meets (he loves to give kisses!!) and Finn (the grey one) will ask them to pick him up. They are sweet and social and loving!!!!
They do well in the car and they do well left home alone. These two are really good boys!!"

Adopting a bonded pair is often easier than adopting one! Jake and Peanut keep each other company, help ease transitions, and provide built-in companionship, which can mean less loneliness, and a smoother adjustment into a new home. They sleep together, cuddle together, and truly make a little team. You’re not just adopting two dogs, you’re welcoming a ready-made family.

Farfel's Rescue and our New Mexico rescue partners would love to see these boys in a home with someone who works from home or is retired. We'd hate to see them left alone all day while their family works full-time outside of the home, as they are much too social for that type of arrangement.

We'd like to place Jake and Peanut in a home where they'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and love. A (virtual or in-person) positive reinforcement group training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence. Training is so important in the future behaviors of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area.

Jake and Peanut are both up to date on their vaccinations, have been fully vetted, are both in great health, heartworm negative, and neutered.

Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.

Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year.

The Chihuahua is a small breed famous for its confidence, loyalty, and big personality, despite its tiny size. Originating from Mexico, these dogs are known for their large, expressive eyes and alert, curious nature. Chihuahuas make excellent companions, forming strong bonds with their owners and displaying a protective nature. They come in a variety of coat colors and patterns, with both long and short coats, making them a diverse and adorable addition to any family.

Farfel’s Farm & Rescue was founded on the idea that each dog deserves a loving home and the chance for a happy life. We are so thrilled to be able to rescue these amazing dogs from urgent situations in Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas and Cancun, Mexico. Working with a dedicated team of volunteers, the dogs are pulled from high-kill shelters because they’ve been recognized for the gifts they will bring to a loving family. They are then transported by specially licensed vans to Colorado for a second chance at life. The dogs are evaluated and treated for any medical issues before being transitioned to their new family, where they can become accustomed to having a family’s love, a warm bed and plenty of healthy food!
