Hiccup Needs a Foster or Adopter by September 12 to Secure His Ride to Wisconsin

Hiccup is currently at a high-kill shelter in Alabama and needs a FOSTER or ADOPTER to secure his spot on the transport to Cedarburg, Wisconsin with Mutt Life Dog Rescue on Saturday, September 12. A committed home is required for him to make the trip, and we’re hopeful the right person is out there.

Meet Hiccup

Hiccup is a young puppy, born in early March 2026, who the shelter believes is a Malinois or Dutch Shepherd mix. He currently weighs about 32 pounds and is already showing the intelligence, drive, and focus that make these breeds so special.

Hiccup has a unique personality for a puppy. He absolutely loves people and is extremely affectionate, playful, and attentive. He is also very dog friendly and enjoys interacting with both people and other dogs. But Hiccup is not a puppy who will be happiest simply lounging around the house all day. He is smart, intense, eager to learn, and clearly wants a job to do.

The shelter thinks Hiccup could be an excellent candidate for someone interested in training, working with dogs, or potentially pursuing activities such as obedience, agility, scent work, or other working-dog activities. He has the kind of focus and engagement that makes you want to keep teaching him new things. He would do best with an adopter or foster who understands that his intelligence and energy need to be channeled in positive ways and who will enjoy giving him structure, training, exercise, and a purpose.

Hiccup is the type of puppy who could really thrive with the right person. He is incredibly people-oriented and wants to be involved with his humans, but he will need more than just a backyard and a few walks around the block. A home with someone who is interested in training and giving him a job would be ideal. Hiccup is fully vetting and ready to go!

Adoption fees include the cost of spay/neuter procedure, up to date dewormer, vaccinations, and heart worm prevention (age appropriate). The adoption fee is up to the discretion of Mutt Life Dog Rescue of Wisconsin.

ADOPTION PROCESS:
1.) Apply: Fill out adoption application completely and submit all necessary documents.

2.)Application Decision: approved applicants will be notified via phone call and email.

3.)Foster-to-Adopt Trial Period: after approval, you have the opportunity to do a meet and greet and bring your dog home! You get a 5 day foster-to-adopt (FTA) period to make sure it's the right fit.

4.) Final Decision: By the end of the FTA period, please let us know your final decision to adopt or return the dog to our rescue.

5.) Home Visit: After the adoption process we conduct a home visit either in person or via zoom meeting to ensure that everything is going well with the transition and to answer any final questions you may have.

6.) Neuter/spay for puppies: for dogs who are not fixed at the time of adoption, we will reimburse $125 for the procedure once we receive proof of spay/neuter. We recommend going to HAWS Snip Clinic in Waukesha, WI or Wisconsin Community Veterinarian Center in Madison, WI for the most affordable option. If you would like to go through your veterinarian or another location, that works too!
