American Bulldog and Terrier Dogs Available for Adoption in West Jefferson, Ohio

This gentle Bulldog/Terrier mix has an estimated birthdate of 05/13/2023 and weighs about 60lbs, at least a third of which is head. It’s HUGE, like have you ever seen Spaceship Earth at Epcot Center? Pretty sure this dog’s head has its own gravity.

“Artie” is all muscles but very gentle, like Terry Crews, but in canine form. We have tried to teach him to pec pop, but it’s still a work in progress. He will sit and offer his paw for a milkbone. He is house trained and pretty low maintenance. If you have long fingernails or one of those back scratchers/brushes he is a big fan. He is also very smell oriented, so he enjoys being allowed to wander an enclosed space to sniff and hunt out hidden treats.

He has met other dogs here at the shelter and did really well. We introduced him to a puppy about a quarter his size, who with zero warning, walked up and bit him in the tender bits, and he just looked at us like “Would ya come get your girl?” We think he’d enjoy a dog who has a similar energy level and with whom he doesn’t need to wear a cup.
He could potentially live peacefully with cats as well, with a proper slow introduction, and we think he would be fine with kids.

**In Order to adopt an unspayed/unneutered dog from HSMC, you must live within an hour of the shelter. You will initially "Foster to Adopt" the dog and then the adoption will be finalized when they are brought back for their spay/neuter surgery. You will need to bring the dog back for vaccines and exams prior to their spay/neuter surgery**

Our adoption fees vary, Shelter Dogs are $180, Prison Dogs are $250, Puppies are $300, and Popular Pure-Breeds are $400. The price includes: a Home Again Microchip, set of shots, de-worming, heartworm testing (if old enough), spay or neuter, and a 1 year rabies shot (if old enough). All dogs adopted must leave with a county license at an additional cost of $21.
