Meet Sparrow Oiseau, a 10-month-old (8/24) Airedale/Heeler mix, who weighs 38 pounds (as of 7/25/26). She and her siblings are from the OISEAU litter ("Oiseau" means "bird" in French.) These fancy pups were born in Tennessee from a stray mom and we suspect they're also a mix of Australian Shepherd/Beauceron/Black and Tan Coonhound and plenty other things! They're looking forward to teaching you more French words like "omelet" and "souffle" (Hey, they didn't say they were good at it!)

Sparrow is a sweet, gentle girl full of playful energy. Her favorite things include: your endless affection, head scratches, bones, her Toppl toy, and playing in the yard to her heart's content. She's also great at fetch! She loves to explore and is always up for a game with her friends and family. Sparrow also has a loving personality and enjoys snuggling after playtime and giving you kisses for trying your best to play with her. Your knees may be creaking from the effort, but she appreciates it.

As Sparrow has grown in foster care, she's become much more confident and has really enjoyed the companionship of well-matched canine friends. She has done well with socially appropriate, confident dogs who communicate clearly and respect boundaries. Because of this, she could do well either as your one-and-only or with the right resident dog. She would not be a good match for homes with cats, small children, frail senior dogs, or socially fragile or very timid dogs.

Like many young dogs, Sparrow is still building confidence in new situations and with unfamiliar people, so shell thrive with patient adopters who use positive reinforcement and allow her to adjust at her own pace. She also prefers to enjoy her meals without canine competition and appreciates thoughtful management around high-value resources.

Sparrow sleeps well in her crate overnight once settled, walks nicely on leash, and is largely house-trained with only occasional accidents. Shes also a budding fashionista who loves collecting shoes and clothes to stash in her crate, though thankfully she prefers accessorizing over chewing!

With a calm, predictable home, plenty of enrichment, and a family committed to helping her continue to blossom, Sparrow is sure to spread her wings.

Birds of a feather flock together! Adopt Sparrow today!

All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works.

Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted. To learn more about our *shelterless* rescue, adoption fees, and procedures, review the list of Frequently Asked Questions on our website at WWW.GDRNE.COM.
