Hi... my name is Winky.

I’m 2 years old, and I’m a little tabby girl from Istanbul, Turkey.

'm already spayed, up to date on my vaccines and microchipped.

I will travel from Istanbul, Turkey to Vancouver, BC in the middle of October to live with my foster family.

My adoption fee is $300 US to cover some of my travel expenses.

Here is my story:

I wish I could tell you everything about the first part of my life.

But some stories are easier to understand without words.

I was living on the streets of Istanbul when I was found after I had been beaten.

I was hurt, frightened, and suffering from a serious infection in my eye.

I didn’t understand why someone had hurt me.

I only knew that people could be scary, and somewhere along the way, I learned that keeping my distance was sometimes the safest way to survive.

Then one day, everything changed.

Someone saw me.

They didn’t walk past me.

They didn’t hurt me.

They reached out to HELP me.

I was taken off the streets and given the medical care I desperately needed. My eye was treated, I was spayed, and for the first time in a long time, I was able to feel safe.

Slowly, my little body healed.

Today, I’m healthy and beautiful.

But sometimes hearts take a little longer to heal than bodies do.

So when I first meet you, I may be shy.

I may watch you quietly from a distance.

I may need some time before I decide it’s safe to come closer.

Please don’t rush me.

Sit with me.

Talk softly to me.

Let me learn your voice and your footsteps.

Let me discover for myself that your hands are gentle.

Because once I trust you, something beautiful happens...

I become your little shadow.

I’ll stay close to your feet.

I’ll quietly follow you from room to room.

You may turn around and suddenly realize that your little tabby girl has been following you everywhere.

That’s how I love.

Quietly.

Loyally.

Completely.

Maybe I won’t run into your arms the first day we meet.

But when I finally give you my trust, please understand how much that means.

Because after being hurt by people, I still found the courage to believe in them again.

I still want a human of my own.

I still believe someone out there will look at me and see more than a shy cat with a difficult past.

I’m dreaming about something very simple now.

A quiet home.

A warm place to sleep.

Gentle hands.

A peaceful life.

And one special person whose footsteps I can follow around the house for the rest of my life.

I survived the streets of Istanbul.

My body healed.

My eye healed.

And little by little, my heart learned how to trust again.

Now I’m ready for the final part of my journey...

A forever family.

Someone who will look at me and say:

“Take all the time you need, Winky. You never have to be afraid again. You’re home.”

Maybe someday the memories of those difficult days on the streets will become very far away.

And instead of remembering the footsteps I once had to run away from...

I’ll only know the sound of yours—
