From her foster mom, Renée:
Leilani isn't going to rush to the front of the room and demand that you love her. She's going to take her time. She'll watch. She'll figure you out. She'll make sure this new place and these new people are safe. And then, little by little, you'll realize that Leilani has started choosing to be near you.
This beautiful girl is what I call "quietly friendly." She's independent and self-sufficient, but that doesn't mean she doesn't enjoy companionship. Once Leilani feels comfortable, she's happy having her people around and enjoys simply sharing space with them. She doesn't need to be carried around or constantly entertained. For the right person, that's part of her charm.
And there's another side to this calm little lady that might surprise you. Leilani loves to play.
She'll happily bat toys around, chase a laser light, or go after the feathers on a wand toy. There's something especially endearing about watching this reserved, dignified girl suddenly forget herself and become completely absorbed in playtime.
Leilani was found at an apartment complex with her newborn kittens. She had been living outside and had to learn that people could be trusted. She was a wonderful mama and did beautifully with her babies, but now that they've grown, it's finally Leilani's turn to have someone take care of her.
Her ideal home will be quiet, patient, and predictable. She's looking for adults who won't expect an instant relationship and will give her the time she needs to settle in. She's not comfortable with dogs or children and would likely be happiest in a peaceful adult home without either.
Leilani did wonderfully with her own kittens and enjoyed having another kitten around, so we know she can enjoy feline companionship. However, she's slow to warm up to unfamiliar adult cats, and we can't promise she'll want a new feline roommate. A home where she's the only pet may be the simplest and happiest fit.
What Leilani needs most is someone who understands that affection doesn't always look like a cat climbing into your lap. Sometimes it's a formerly homeless mama deciding to stay in the room instead of leaving. Then sitting a little closer. Then relaxing enough to play. Then one day realizing that the quiet little cat who once wasn't sure about you has decided this is her home, and you are her person.

At Meowtown, we don't have a traditional, physical shelter - all of our cats live in loving foster homes. That means they are already used to real home life, and we truly know their personalities, habits, and what makes them special. They are safe, socialized, and ready to be part of a family. They're not waiting to become housecats... they already are. They just need a house.
