She'll tell you what she wants, what she really, really wants! Meet Spice Girl Donut, a 1-year-old Shih Tzu/Yorkie mix, weighing 15 pounds (as of 7/3/26). The DONUT litter are a-dough-rable Shih Tzu/Yorkie mix pups aka Shorkies who were rescued from a hoarder situation in western Massachusetts.
Last Friday, the police in West Springfield called to say that they had 12 dogs in an abandoned home with nobody to take care of them and they were fearful that without rescue, they might starve to death in the house. Of course, Great Dog Rescue jumped into action and took every single dog to safety at our isolation center in Woburn, Mass. These pups saw our vet and received vaccinations and other medical attention. When we started reaching out for help, Petco stepped up and gave every single one of the Donuts a full grooming! For free! Thank you again to the gang at Petco for being so a-glaze-ing!
Spice up your life with Spice Girl! She's a sweet, spirited gal with a signature waddle and a heart full of joy. She was likely born with abnormalities in her hind legs or developed them as a young pup due to early malnutrition, but she doesn't let that slow her down. Her femur, tibia, and fibula are present but uniquely shaped, and she doesn't have an anterior cruciate ligament — which means her hind legs don't bend the way most dogs do.
Despite this, Spice Girl is pain-free, happy, and mobile, getting around beautifully in her own adorable way with dance moves that'll rival the real Spice Girls. She may develop arthritis a bit earlier than other dogs, but with daily joint and bone supplements, she's thriving and living life to the fullest. Say you'll be there for her!
The Donuts love and adore people, get along with other dogs, and have lived happily with cats in the past. We cannot promise that any of them are housebroken, but they hope to master all training so they can be your B.D.F: Best Donut Friend! Despite coming out of some of the most horrific conditions we have ever seen, all 12 of these dogs are absolute sweethearts! They just want to be loved, pet and with their people! Now it is your turn to ensure that they have the good life they deserve! Make life sweeter (and punnier) with a donut today!
All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works.
Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted. To learn more about our *shelterless* rescue, adoption fees, and procedures, review the list of Frequently Asked Questions on our website at WWW.GDRNE.COM.
