Miller came from a terrible puppy mill case and is now beginning the process of learning what life outside of a cage can look like. Miller seems to be having a particularly difficult time adjusting to new people and new experiences. Socialization and leash walking are both challenging for him right now, and he can be very fearful when faced with something unfamiliar. But we know there is a great dog underneath that fear, and we are already seeing little glimpses of him as he begins to learn that the world isn't such a scary place.
Because of his fearful nature, he would not be a good candidate for a home with young children. A home with older, respectful children may be an option, provided they understand that he will need plenty of patience and space. Miller is dog friendly.
All of the dogs from this puppy mill case have significant needs. None are potty trained at first, and adopters should be prepared to patiently teach them while understanding that accidents are likely while they are learning. They have had very little exposure to normal household life, so everyday experiences may initially be overwhelming. They will also be flight risks while settling into their new homes, making secure doors, gates, fencing, and careful leash handling extremely important.
Miller is going to need someone truly committed to his journey. Someone who won't expect him to become a confident, well-adjusted dog overnight. He needs patience and consistency. We may not know exactly how long it will take, but we believe there is a wonderful dog waiting to come out of his shell.
Miller is currently in foster care and is not physically located at our facility. If you are interested in setting up a time to meet Miller, please reach out to haveaheartpetshelter@gmail.com or call 870-449-7387.
