Meet Shadow!

Please help us give a very special Pacific Northwest welcome to Shadow, one of two incredibly lucky dogs who recently found their way into the Street Dog Hero family. Shadow and his buddy Muffin were living alongside their people on the streets of Los Angeles' Skid Row. During a recent trip to Southern California, our team spent time visiting local shelters and connecting with people living on the streets with the help of a wonderful local support organization. Along the way, we met these two pups and knew we wanted to give them a chance at something more.

So, Shadow and Muffin are now beginning an entirely new chapter! We're still getting to know Shadow and learning more about his personality, preferences, and all the little things that make him special. After everything he's experienced and the changes he's been through, we'll be giving him the time, patience, and love he needs to decompress and adjust to his new surroundings. For now, we're simply grateful that this adorable, fluffy boy is safe, warm, cared for, and surrounded by people who believe he deserves a brighter future.

Shadow's rescue story:
Shadow is arriving at Street Dog Hero through a new partnership with Women United For Animal Welfare in Los Angeles. Shadow originally belonged to a drug dealer living on Skid Row who would leave him alone for days and sometimes weeks at a time. During that time, Shadow was hit by a car not once, but twice. Eventually, Shadow became something of a community dog on Skid Row. He learned to fend for himself, with people in the community looking out for him when they could. Despite everything he has experienced, Shadow is an incredibly sweet boy who simply wants to be loved. Sadly, Shadow's previous owner is now back in jail, leaving Shadow alone once again. This time, though, Shadow has been given the chance to leave that life behind for good. Almost everything outside of Skid Row is completely new to him. Shadow has spent much of his life having to survive on his own, so adjusting to a new environment will take time. He will need someone who is patient and willing to move slowly, build his trust, and help him learn that he no longer has to fend for himself. Underneath everything he has been through is a very sweet dog who just wants to feel safe and loved. We can't wait to help Shadow discover what life can look like when someone is finally there to take care of him.
