Three Brothers Looking for Patient, Understanding Forever Families. Please help us welcome Sheriff, Smokey and Bandit, three handsome brothers who recently joined the Street Dog Hero family after being rescued from a rural home outside of Prineville in Crook County. A wonderful SDH volunteer learned that these boys were in need of help. Knowing they deserved a chance at something better, this caring family stepped in to help and reached out to Street Dog Hero to see if we could give them the opportunity they needed.

We were told that the boys had lived with people, including children, as well as other dogs. But their transition into rescue has been a big one. When Sheriff, Smokey and Bandit first arrived, they were understandably frightened and overwhelmed by all the changes around them. It took several days before our staff could comfortably handle them and begin getting them outside for potty breaks, walks and some much-needed fresh air and decompression. Now, we're giving these sweet brothers the time, patience and encouragement they need to begin discovering that people can be trusted and that life has so many good things waiting for them and they're already making some great progress and coming out of their shells more and more everyday! They go for walks with volunteers and they're now happily greeting new people and giving licks as they walk by! As for other dogs, they seek out other dogs for confidence and enjoy the company of other canine buddies!

Because of their initial fearfulness, their future families will need to understand that these boys may take some time to come out of their shells. They aren't looking for someone who expects an instant connection or a dog who is immediately confident in every new situation. They're looking for people who are willing to let them go at their own pace, celebrate the little victories and help them build confidence one day at a time. Given their German Shepherd and Rottweiler mix heritage, experience with these breeds or similar large, intelligent and sometimes sensitive working breeds would be a wonderful bonus. We also believe a friendly, confident canine companion - or even a couple of them - could be especially beneficial as they continue learning the ropes and gaining confidence from other dogs. Their journey is just beginning, and we're excited to see who these beautiful boys become once they feel safe, secure and truly loved.
