DESCRIPTION

They tell me I'm four. I move like I'm two and a half. I've decided to let the mystery stand.

Here's the first thing you should know about me: I have not yet met a stranger. Not one. I like people - all of them, immediately, on sight. I'm affectionate, I'm soft, and I would very much like to be near you at all times, if that works for your schedule.

The second thing: I am a fantastic student. I'm eager, I'm smart, and I will do nearly anything for a treat or for someone telling me I'm good. In a short time I've learned Sit, Place, and I come when I'm called. I walk beautifully on a Halti. I'm crate-trained and I actually love my crate - I'll put myself in it and fall asleep, no whining, no fuss. I'm housetrained. And I'm muzzle-trained, which I mention because it means the hard stuff is manageable and nobody has to be afraid of me.

I'm chill in the house. I sleep hard. And I have two speeds - zoomies and unconscious. My people have searched for a third. It isn't there.

Now the honest part, because I'd rather you hear it from me. I have resource guarding behavior around other dogs. Food, water bowls - that's my weak spot, and it's a real one. I've gotten into it with resident dogs before, and once it went badly. I don't read other dogs well yet; I get in their space and I miss the signals when they ask me to back off.
But here's what my trainer says, and she's the one who's actually worked me: she's had me around a large group of dogs. I was tense at first. And then I settled - and she was able to take my muzzle off. She believes I can live with another dog. It just has to be the right dog, the right introduction, and the right person running it. Not a "let's see how it goes." A real plan, with a professional, taking as long as it takes.

So I'm not a no-dogs dog. I'm a right-dog-only dog, and I need someone honest enough to know the difference.

About procedures: I've given warnings when I don't like something - someone once came at me with a mouth swab and I got worked up about it. My trainer's own read is that I was being rushed and not given time to settle. I'm not aggressive with people. I'm a young dog who needs a beat to understand what's happening. Go slow with me and I'm fine, and my muzzle training makes vet visits simple.

About cats: my shelter paperwork says I'm good with them. It also says I'm four. Nobody has actually tested it. Please treat it as unknown.
One more thing, and it's the important one: when I get it wrong, I correct easily. That's what everyone who's worked with me says. I'm not a dog you'd be fighting forever. I'm a dog who never got taught, and who is desperate to learn.

Who I'm looking for:
Someone active. I need a real walk and a job for my brain, or I'll invent one and you won't like it.
Someone who does structure - clear rules, consistent, every day. I fall apart without it and I shine with it. Structure, exercise, discipline, and love. All four. My trainer wrote that list, not me, and she's right.

And someone who reads all of this and thinks yeah, I can do that - instead of looking for a dog with no paragraph like this one. Everything difficult about me is written down here, in daylight, and every bit of it is being actively worked on right now.

I'm not being thrown away. I'm being placed by people who love me and were honest about what I need, and who did the work first so you wouldn't have to do it blind.

My trainer, Terri Self of Hoodlum Hounds Dog Training, has offered to walk any rescue, foster, or serious adopter through everything I know and everything I'm working on. Take her up on it. She'll tell you the truth about me - she already has.
I'd be so good for you. I just need someone to choose me on purpose.
