RESCUE STORY - I was rescued from a ravine in Mexico City in February of this year. Very scary for a young pup like me, I was only around 8 months old! Not much is known about my early days, but when I was rescued I was in pretty sad shape. I was malnourished, thin, and covered in fleas! Thankfully, I was transported to the shelter where I was given the attention needed to recover and grow - now I'm a healthy gal ready for my forever home!
TEMPERAMENT - As you can see in my videos, I'm a little shy and hesitant at first. Once I'm given time and space to warm up, I'm happy around familiar and new people - and my fellow doggies too! I live and play with dogs of all sizes here at the shelter, and do not show signs of resource guarding around my belongings.
ENERGY LEVEL - Medium - My rescuer describes me as affectionate and playful. I also enjoy a good routine! With consistentcy, I'm a good rule follower! I head off to sleep around 8pm and wait to be taken outside to go potty. Another fun fact about me, I love snacks of fruits and carrots! I'm a sweet girl ready for all of the love and attention (and snacks!) I deserve - will that home be with you?!
GETS ALONG WITH:
Kids – I am calm around children, but similar to meeting new people, I can be a bit anxious. Here is a video of me interacting with a kiddo.
Same with all dogs, I need to have an adult advocate for my space and make sure I'm supervised around children.
Dogs – Yes, I live with dogs of all sizes here at the shelter. I am a bit shy around new dogs and will need time and space to warm up. Here is a video of me meeting new pups.
Cats – Unknown - I don't have any known experience around cats.
PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I'm not too sure how I'll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise.
TRAINING:
Leash skills – Work in progress. Check out videos of me walking on a leash here and here. I will need an adopter who is happy to work with me on my leash manners. A well-fitted harness and some dedicated leash training will help set me up for success!
House trained – Work in progress. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home :)
HEALTH NOTES:
I am spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records.
I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying North.
NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter.
ADOPTION FEE:
My adoption fee is $840.00 CAD including tax (5% GST, 7% PST), which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver.
