RESCUE STORY - I was originally rescued from the overcrowded Gimje City Shelter in South Korea, where I spent my days in a small cage dreaming of a family to call my own. Thankfully, I was rescued and eventually made the long journey to Canada, arriving on February 11.
After arriving, I spent three months in an adoptive home. Unfortunately, there was a bite incident involving a child, and it became clear that I needed additional support, structure, and training to help me succeed. Since then, I've spent time in a foster home and completed a four-week board-and-train program with Taylor and Mady at Penny's Pals, where I've worked hard on my confidence, communication, boundaries, and obedience skills! Now I'm looking for a temporary foster home or, even better, a forever family who can continue helping me thrive and become the very best version of myself.
TEMPERAMENT - I am a good boy with a lot of love to give. I'm affectionate, loyal, intelligent, and I form strong bonds with my people. Once I trust you, I enjoy being close by and spending time together. My trainers have learned that I communicate very clearly when I'm feeling uncomfortable, and I do best when the people around me understand and respect those signals.
I thrive in a structured environment with clear expectations and consistent routines. I can be a little bossy at times and sometimes like to be the "alpha" of the household, but I respond well to fair corrections and leadership from confident handlers.
The truth is, I'm a bit misunderstood. I've been through a lot of change in a short period of time, and I'm still looking for my place in this world. With the right guidance, patience, and structure, I have so much potential to be an incredible companion. I get along well with other dogs and generally read social cues appropriately. I also enjoy relaxing, watching the world go by, and, of course, earning treats since I'm very food-motivated!
MY IDEAL HOME - I'm looking for a home that can provide me with structure, consistency, and clear boundaries so I can continue being successful!
My trainers have learned that I'm actually very good at communicating when I'm feeling uncomfortable. I give warning signs and body language that build gradually before I become overwhelmed. When the people around me recognize and respect those signals, I'm usually able to settle down and regulate myself just fine.
Because of this, I'll do best with:
Consistent routines and clear expectations
Confident, dog-savvy humans who will continue my training
People who are willing to learn and respect my body language
A commitment to maintaining the structure and management strategies that have helped me succeed
Patience while I continue building confidence and trust
My trainers believe that I can potentially live safely in a home with children, but only if there is management, active supervision, and very clear boundaries that everyone consistently follows. If there are kids in the home, all family members need to be committed to respecting my space and following the same rules and routines.
I also need a family that understands I'm still a work in progress (aren't we all!). If I become overly stressed or my warning signals are ignored, I may resort to nipping or biting. That's why my trainers recommend continuing with the tools and routines I've learned, including muzzle use when appropriate for safety.
Most of all, I'm looking for people who will see past my mistakes and recognize the loving, loyal little dog underneath. I've worked really hard, and I have so much love to give. I may be a bit misunderstood, but with the right family by my side, I know I can continue growing into the wonderful companion I'm meant to be!
ENERGY LEVEL - Medium
GETS ALONG WITH:
Kids – In the right home with management, structure, and supervision. I have been tested with older children as you can see here, here and here! They just need to respect my boundaries, and I will happily respect theirs. See my "Ideal Home" above!
Dogs – Yes! I get along and play with other pups very well!
Cats – Unknown.
PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I'm not too sure how I'll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise.
TRAINING:
Leash skills – Great! I have learned a lot with Penny's Pals and am such a happy boy when I get to go outside!
House trained – Yes I sure am!
Crate trained – work in progress. I know I SHOULD like my crate, but sometimes I like to yap about it. I will definitely settle!
Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.
HEALTH NOTES:
I am neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.
NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter.
ADOPTION FEE:
My adoption fee is $840.00 CAD ($750.00 CAD + 5% GST and 7% PST).
