If you're looking for a dog who wakes up happy every day and believes everyone is a potential best friend, then Utz is your guy!
This handsome, goofy Hound mix got his name in a memorable way-before coming to CARE, he arrived at a local animal control with his head stuck inside a container of cheese balls. Thankfully, he was rescued, and the name "Utz" (just like the cheese ball brand) stuck! It's a fitting name for a dog who loves snacks almost as much as he loves people.
Utz is an affectionate, social pup who never passes up the chance to make a new friend. Whether you're someone he's known for years or someone he just met, he'll happily greet you with a wagging tail and plenty of sweet kisses. His joyful personality is contagious, and he brings smiles wherever he goes.
He's dog-friendly and would love to have a canine companion to romp and play with in his forever home. He enjoys toys, loves to play, and is always ready for his next adventure. Since he's still a young dog, he's continuing to polish up his manners, but he's generally a polite boy who is eager to learn-especially when treats are involved! Food and toys are excellent motivators for this smart pup.
Utz can be cat tested if needed for a potential adopter.
If you're searching for a fun-loving, affectionate companion with a hilarious origin story and a heart full of love, Utz is ready to meet you. He's hoping to find a family that will keep him active, shower him with affection, and maybe-just maybe-store the cheese balls somewhere out of reach this time.
Could Utz be the perfect addition to your family?
Utz is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. His adoption fee is $300.
Utz is in the Paws in Prison program, where he receives basic obedience training. He will graduate from Paws in Prison on 9/12/2026. The dogs in this program are provided basic level training under the AKC Canine Good Citizen standards and are specifically selected to be family and companion dogs. They spend 24 hours a day with their trainers. So, there will be an adjustment period as they adjust to their new family schedule.
For this reason, they will do best in homes where they are primarily inside dogs and spend lots of time with their families. The adoptive family will receive his training journal. This journal documents his arrival from the shelter, daily training progress, and interactions with the trainers.
If you are interested in meeting Utz or learning more about our adoption process, please submit an adoption application. Thank you!
