Heidi - Hound Dog for Adoption in Andover, Massachusetts

This dog is currently out of state but will be transported to New England shortly with no additional travel costs. The long distance adoption process includes talking to the foster they are living with in the south. Roughly 90% of our dogs are successfully long distance adopted and 10% adopted locally.

Say "hi!" to Heidi! She's an approx. 6-year-old Hound mix, weighing 32 pounds (as of 7/23/26). This lady was found as a stray in Tennessee. Someone tried to find her owner for 2 weeks but was unable to. Fortunately for her, Heidi is on to bigger and better things: potentially joining your family!

Heidi is a very sweet girl who likes people and has no problems greeting strangers with an array of strawberry candies from her pocket. Heidi does well with dogs and while she might not play much, she doesn't mind just chilling out with them. We're not sure if she's met kiddos or cats yet, so the jury's still out!

When it comes to Heidi's perfect home, a calm, retirement type home would be best since she's not a fan of loud noises like rain, thunder or fireworks. Perhaps singing "My Favorite Things" from the Sound of Music can help distract her? Heidi also prefers to be the solo dog since she likes to keep her belongings (food, toys, bed, etc.) within her sights. We're not sure what her history is or why she does what she does, but we feel she may not break out of the habit. This girl's been through a lot!

Heidi knows how to be on a leash, but isn't too fond of it. In fact, she'd prefer if you just picked her up and gave her piggy back rides around town or around your yard! A small yard would suit her just fine. She hasn't had experience being crated and will need patience as she adjusts to your home when it comes to potty time. Heidi can't wait to find a family to call her own and give you all the love in the world!

All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application.
