Hi there... I'm Richard - a 1-year-old German Shepherd/Hound mix weighing in at about 60 pounds of loyalty, love, and just the right amount of goofy puppy energy.
Not too long ago, I was out on my own, trying to survive as a stray. I ended up at a rural shelter, and before I knew it, my time was almost up. But just when things felt hopeless, someone said "yes" to me - and I got my freedom ride to Take Paws Rescue. That was the moment my second chance began.
Now that I'm safe, my true personality is shining through. I'm a super friendly, happy guy who loves being around people - in fact, I tend to stick to my person like Velcro. Wherever you go, I'll be right there, ready to be your sidekick.
I've still got some puppy enthusiasm, so I love to play, especially when it involves toys or a good game of fetch. I walk nicely on a leash, sleep well in my crate, and I'm working hard on my house manners. I really try to do my business outside, but apartment life is a little new to me - I think I'd truly thrive in a home with a yard where I can stretch my legs and keep learning my routine.
I am neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. I am dog-friendly and (hate to admit it) kind of afraid of cats.
What I really need is someone who will give me a little structure, consistency, and patience while I keep figuring things out. In return? I'll give you my whole heart. I have all the makings of an incredible best friend - the kind of dog who greets you like you're the best part of his day, every single day.
I've been given a second chance... and I'm ready to make the very most of it. Could that be with you?

If you are interested in meeting and/or adopting, the first step is to complete an application and read all of our FAQs:
https://www.takepawsrescue.org/adopt
Please note: Information to determine if you might be a match for one of our animals can only be found on our application.
*An inquiry, questions or introduction through Petfinder is NOT an application*
All known details about our animals are posted on their profile and updated daily. Other info will be discussed in detail with the foster during the application review process. Due to the high volume of introductions/questions received we ask you to submit an application (that application can be used for any dog with Take Paws Rescue).
The adoption fee for adult dogs covers age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, spay/neuter if not yet performed, heartworm test & appropriate heartworm treatment by the rescue's vet. All dogs in our care are also kept up-to-date on HW/Flea Prevention.
For more on this, or for additional information, including the adoption process and our adoption fee scale for all our adoptable pets (including an explanation about Benefactor Dogs), please see our FAQs page:

Any breed labels used by Take Paws Rescue, its employees/volunteers, or on vet records provided cannot be guaranteed. Breed labels are given based on information obtained during intake and/or best guesses based on appearance and/or temperament of the dogs and Take Paws Rescue gives no assurance to the accuracy of these labels. Labels are necessary for postings to many animal networking sites, such as our website, Chewy, Pet Finder, and others. These are in no way a guarantee. Additionally, exact age and potential size cannot be guaranteed.
***Take Paws Rescue saves dogs from high-kill shelters across the South, owner surrenders, and discarded dogs with uncertain futures. All of our animals live in foster homes where they are socialized, and well cared for. An application will be required to make sure it's the perfect match!
