Meet Luc! Luc is a 3-year-old deaf Dogo Argentino who is approximately 50% muscle, 40% heart, and 10% completely questionable ideas.

Yes, he's headstrong. Yes, he can be a little obtuse. And yes, sometimes you can practically see the wheels turning as he considers whether your suggestion is actually better than whatever Luc had planned.

But gosh, is this dog sweet.

Luc loves HARD. He wants so badly to be the goodest boy, and with someone who knows how to communicate clearly with a big, strong, hard-headed dog, he absolutely shines. He takes correction remarkably well, wants to please, and underneath all that Dogo determination is an affectionate goofball who just wants scratches, treats, adventures, and his very best friends. And despite his size, he loves being a 'lap dog,' happily resting part of his body on your lap and giving gentle face kisses.

And Luc's very best friends? Other dogs.

This big lug is extremely dog friendly and genuinely loves canine companionship. Big dogs, little dogs. Luc isn't particularly picky. He just wants friends. His only problem is that nobody seems to have informed him that he is, in fact, a very large dog. His enthusiasm occasionally exceeds his spatial awareness, so smaller canine friends should be comfortable with a big, clumsy buddy who means absolutely no harm.

Luc is also AMAZING in his crate. He settles beautifully and is perfectly comfortable hanging out there when needed. He's an excellent car rider and loves an outing, especially when that outing involves a trip through the drive-through. He's happy to sit back and see where you're taking him... as long as there's a reasonable possibility that snacks are involved.

And unlike approximately 97% of dogs on planet Earth, Luc LOVES going to the vet. New people giving him attention and scratches? What's not to love?

Because Luc is deaf, communication with him looks a little different. He's smart, responsive, and very capable of learning what is expected of him. He knows sit, down, and 'no.' He does best walking on a prong collar thanks to his thick neck, considerable strength, and tendency to occasionally have 'Big Ideas' about where the two of you should be going. With clear communication and an experienced handler, he does wonderfully.

Luc could potentially live with children because there isn't an aggressive bone in this big boy's body. However, we'd lean toward older kids simply because Luc has the body awareness of a runaway refrigerator. Toddlers and a giant, enthusiastic Dogo who occasionally forgets where his butt is located may not be the most practical combination.

Luc isn't necessarily the dog we'd recommend for a first-time dog owner. He's a powerful, headstrong Dogo who will do best with someone who has experience handling big dogs and can give him clear, consistent boundaries.

But if big, goofy, stubborn dogs are your love language?

Oh boy, is Luc going to melt your heart.

He is sweet to his core, loves his friends with everything he's got, and tries his absolute hardest to be a good boy, even when his brain and his body aren't entirely cooperating.

Luc doesn't need someone who expects perfection. He needs someone who can laugh at his antics, appreciate his enormous heart, give him the structure he needs, and love all 100% of this big deaf goober.

Adoption process: After your phone screening, we can schedule a meet and greet/the start of your foster-to-adopt trial. All adoptions have a 2 week minimum foster-to-adopt trial to make sure that the pet is the right fit for your home, and vice versa. Luc's adoption fee is $250, which would be due after the foster-to-adopt period.
