Meet Skipper!

We genuinely cannot figure out how this girl has been in rescue for TWO YEARS without being scooped up.

Skipper is a stunning 42-pound brindle pittie girl with a heart as big as her personality and, quite honestly, one of the best temperaments you could ask for. She is the perfect mix of silly, sweet, resilient, social, and loyal—the kind of dog who makes you smile without even trying.

Skipper came to us after she was accidentally struck by a kind Good Samaritan’s vehicle. Instead of driving away, that person stopped, searched tirelessly for her owner, and ultimately made sure Skipper received the surgery she needed to repair her injured foot. Thanks to that compassion, Skipper got her second chance. Her foot is completely healed, she’s good as new, and now she’s just waiting for someone to finally give her the forever home she deserves.

And what a gem she is.

Skipper absolutely loves her people. She adores pets, cuddles, car rides, adventures, and pretty much anywhere she gets the opportunity to meet new people or dogs. She is affectionate without being needy, playful without being chaotic, and has never shown us any separation anxiety—even after two years in rescue and all the transitions that come along with rescue life.

Skipper is also EXTREMELY dog friendly. She isn't just tolerant of other dogs; she genuinely loves them. She’s one of our trusted “helper dogs” because she reads other dogs so well and is wonderful at welcoming new pups into the pack. With puppies, she has the perfect tomboy big-sister energy: ready to wrestle and play, but also happy to show the youngsters how things are done.

She’s practically a dog park expert and would be thrilled with a family who enjoys taking her places where she can socialize. She would be perfectly happy soaking up all the attention as an only dog, but she would also LOVE having a canine sibling—or two.

At home, Skipper is remarkably easy. She LOVES her crate and settles quietly when it's time to relax. After a quick round of zoomies or playtime, she’s more than happy to stretch out on a comfy dog bed near her humans and take a good nap.

Her hobbies include chew toys, tug-of-war, playing with her dog friends, going for rides, meeting new people, and enthusiastically accepting treats. The one thing strangely absent from her list? Peanut butter. Yes, our dog named Skipper somehow doesn't like peanut butter. We don't understand it either.

Treats are VERY exciting in Skipper’s world, so she occasionally needs a reminder to take them gently. Thankfully, she is an excellent listener and responds beautifully to gentle correction. She genuinely wants to be a good girl.

Skipper is crate trained, impressively quiet, and walks nicely on leash. She also has great off-leash recall and loves being outside, which makes us think she would be a phenomenal camping and adventure companion. She loves people of all ages, adapts beautifully to new situations, and in two years of knowing her, we simply haven't seen the anxiety or behavioral struggles that so many rescue dogs understandably experience.

Honestly, we're baffled.

Two years is an awfully long time for a dog with this kind of temperament to wait for a home.

After two years of waiting, we think it's more than time for someone to finally realize what we've known all along:

Adoption process: After your phone screening, we can schedule a meet and greet/the start of your foster-to-adopt trial. All adoptions have a 2 week minimum foster-to-adopt trial to make sure that the pet is the right fit for your home, and vice versa. Skipper's adoption fee is $250, which would be due after the foster-to-adopt period. If you are located outside of Texas, we offer to-your-door transportation and have so many happy families as references. We are very transparent about the process so feel free to ask any questions.
