Booker is a sweet, affectionate 3 year old Dachshund mix that weighs 18 lbs. He is fully grown and will not get any larger. Booker is truly one of the sweetest dogs you’ll ever meet. He absolutely adores his humans, and that same affection extends to just about every person he meets. He has a way of looking at you with complete and utter adoration, as if simply being in your presence is the best thing in the world. He isn’t demanding of your attention, but he always wants to be nearby. When you leave the house, you might catch him peeking out the window, keeping an eye out for your return. And the moment he hears your car pull into the driveway, he’ll be waiting eagerly at the front door, welcoming you home with a sweet smile on his face and a wagging tail. Once you settle onto the couch, Booker will happily hop up beside you and scoot in as close as possible. One of his favorite activities is spending a lazy day cuddled up with his favorite person, watching movies and enjoying each other’s company. Just be prepared for him to roll over so he can get some belly rubs until he dozes off for a nap. Booker also loves meeting his foster dad’s friends. He might pretend to be a little shy for a few seconds, but that never lasts long. Before you know it, he’ll make his way over for pets and affection. He makes fast friends, and once he knows you’re there to give him some love, his silly side comes out. When Booker gets excited, he gets the cutest little zoomies and loves playing a game of hallway tag with his foster dad. He’ll race toward him, spin around just before reaching him, zoom back down the hallway, and then turn around to do it all over again. His playful bursts of energy are short and sweet, and once he’s finished showing off his moves, he’s ready for one of his favorite rewards: frozen doggy ice cream or a pup cup. Afterward, he’s more than happy to settle back in for some quality cuddle time. Booker would also make a wonderful work from home companion. He’s perfectly content entertaining himself while his foster dad works. He’ll quietly hang out on his dog bed in the office, play with his toys or snuffle mat, or simply curl up for a nap. He’s happy just knowing his person is nearby, making him an ideal little coworker who won’t interrupt your meetings. If you’re looking for a gentle, affectionate companion who will greet you like you’re the best part of his day, happily share the couch for movie nights, and keep you smiling with his silly little zoomies, Booker might just be your perfect match.
Booker is low to medium energy, so he is pretty mellow with short bursts of energy that requires a couple of short exercise sessions per day. He loves going on walks aroung the neighborhood and hiking trails, and gets so excited when he sees his foster dad grab his leash. He also loves playing with toys, being silly with his kitty friends, and cuddling on the couch with his foster dad. He is highly food motivated and loves play mental stimulation games, like puzzles that involve his favorite treats. While he enjoys playing with his furry and human friends, he’s also perfectly content to entertain himself with his favorite toys when he can't find anyone to play with. When he's ready for some down time, he will find a comfy spot on a dog bed and chew on a bone or will toss around his favorite toy to keep himself busy. His ideal home will have a toy box full of squeaky toys, ropes, and chew toys, and he’d be thrilled to have a BarkBox subscription to keep the fun going with new surprises every month. Whether it is leisurely walks around the neighborhood or play time in the backyard, he's content with whatever form of exercise his humans want to do with him.
Booker is dog, cat, and kid friendly. He is currently in a foster home with two cats and coexists beautifully with them. Every now and then he tries to play with them, but if they don't want to play, he will find something else to entertain himself with. He would do best with dog-friendly cats who have lived with dogs before because he likes to hang out with his kitty friends and will want to be near them. He was previously in a foster home with another dog and did great with him. He is always polite in his greetings with other dogs and allows them to initiate play time first. He knows proper doggy communication skills and how to respect boundaries with doggy friends, and takes correction well if other dogs communicate that they don't want to play. He has such a laid back, neutral demeanor that he can hang out with either dogs or cats, and is happy just having a furry companion around. Booker would do best with kids 10 years old and up. He may accidentally knock over a smaller toddler or baby learning to walk when he gets his playful zoomies, but he is very gentle when he's not in full play-mode. He is an incredibly sweet, playful, and affectionate boy who truly enjoys being around his people and would love if there are some kids in the home that will give him belly rubs and play fetch with him.
Booker is kennel trained, leash trained, and potty trained. He will sleep in a kennel at night with no fuss if he has to, but he would prefer to sleep in bed with his forever family so he can get in as many cuddles as possible. He is not destructive when he is left out when his humans have to leave, and he will greet you as soon as you walk in the front door with a smile on his face. When he needs to go outside and potty he will walk to the back door and start circling around to notify you he needs out. He is comfortable walking on a leash and enjoys going out for walks around the neighborhood. He is generally pretty calm and doesn't pull once you start walking, but he can get excited when you're first walking outside of the house to start the walk. He is not reactive at all when he sees other people and dogs, and will trot right past them without even stopping. He is happy to go on leisurely walks around the neighborhood, and really loves to go on longer hiking trails where he can sniff and explore.
Booker's ideal home would be a house with a fenced in backyard to run around and play in. He would be able to live in apartment, condo, or townhouse as long as he has a human that can take him out for multiple leisurely walks per day. He would love if his human works from home, but if his human works out of the home, he will need longer play sessions, walks, and fun adventures on the weekends. He is comfortable going up and down stairs so he would do fine living in a home with stairs. No public dog parks for this sweet boy because who wants to risk your pup catching a disease or being bullied on by other random dogs anyways. Instead he would love to go on fun outings at Sniff Spots if he doesn't have a fenced in backyard to run around and play in. He would love to have a family that has another friendly, playful dog or a dog-friendly cat or two. He would love to have older kids to play and snuggle with, too. Booker's got a whole lot of love, a whole lot of personality, and a lifetime of adventures waiting ahead of him, and now all he needs is a forever family to share that with.
