Meet Colby, a stunning white and red Cocker Spaniel with a sweet soul, beautiful eyes, and five years of missed childhood to make up for!
For the first five years of his life, Colby worked in the breeding business. Unfortunately, the benefits package was terrible. No paid vacations, no comfy couches, no bedtime snuggles, and absolutely no toys. In fact, Colby spent his entire life living in a kennel, never knowing what it meant to be someone’s beloved family member.
When his breeder no longer had any use for him, Colby was released to our rescue. And that’s when his real life began!
When Colby first arrived, he was a frightened, insecure little guy. Leashes were terrifying, human hands were suspicious, and the whole concept of living inside a home was completely foreign to him.
Thankfully, Colby landed with a wonderful foster family who is patiently teaching him that life can actually be pretty amazing!
Here’s what Colby has discovered so far:
Leashes: Apparently, these things aren’t instruments of torture. They’re actually how humans take you on adventures! Who knew?
Human Hands: Turns out, they’re pretty wonderful when they offer gentle pets, affection, and reassurance.
Potty Training: He’s learning that the great outdoors is where respectable gentlemen conduct their bathroom business. It’s a work in progress!
TOYS! Oh, the glorious discovery of TOYS! After five years without them, Colby has decided that whoever invented dog toys deserves a Nobel Prize. He’s absolutely delighted with his newfound treasures!
Love and Security: Perhaps the biggest discovery of all. Colby is slowly learning that he doesn’t have to be afraid anymore.
Colby has been neutered and vaccinated. During his veterinary examination, he tested positive for Ehrlichia, a tick-borne disease. He is currently receiving antibiotic treatment, and we expect him to make a full recovery.
What kind of forever home does Colby need?
Colby is looking for a patient, compassionate family who understands that dogs who have spent their lives in breeding kennels need time to adjust to the world outside.
He needs people who will celebrate his little victories, gently encourage him when something feels scary, and give him the time and reassurance he needs to blossom.
A calm, loving environment and a predictable routine will help him continue building confidence. His future family should be prepared to continue his house-training and leash-training journey with patience and positive reinforcement.
Colby isn’t looking for perfection. He’s looking for kindness, security, and a family who will love him exactly where he is in his journey.
And perhaps a reasonably generous toy budget. After all, he has FIVE YEARS of toy shopping to catch up on!
Colby spent the first five years of his life being useful to someone. Now it’s his turn to be LOVED by someone.
We can’t give him back those five years, but we can make sure every year ahead is filled with everything he missed.

Colby is currently fostered in Texas and available to transport to approved adopter in the Midwest, Northeast and Canada.
$600 Adoption fee includes vaccinations, Spay/Neuter, microchip, deworming,
$300 fee for Transport and vet/documentation requirements in preparation for transport.
