Meet Xena — a gorgeous 2-year-old German Shepherd with beauty, brains, personality and approximately 47 things she would like to accomplish before lunch.

Xena once had a family of her own. Like so many puppies, she was adorable, fluffy and relatively easy when she was little. Then she grew up and became exactly what German Shepherds are supposed to become — an intelligent, active young working-breed dog who needs more out of life than a backyard and someone occasionally throwing a tennis ball.

Her family realized they weren’t equipped to meet those needs, so Xena came to us for a fresh start.

And this girl is thriving.

Xena currently lives with an experienced German Shepherd foster and shares her home with a large group of foster and resident dogs. She plays and socializes with them daily and gets along beautifully with everyone.

Basically, she has a larger friend group than most humans.

Xena’s impressive résumé includes:

Approximately 2 years old
Very dog friendly and well socialized
Potty trained
Crate trained
Leash trained
Knows several commands
Treat motivated — because apparently payment is required for services rendered
Vaccinated

Microchipped
Loving, social and affectionate

Xena has all the potential to become an absolutely incredible companion for the right family.

But we need to be clear: Xena is a German Shepherd.

She has opinions.

She has energy.

She has a brain that would very much like something productive to do.

And she will probably notice the Amazon delivery driver approximately three minutes before you do.

Xena needs a family who understands working breeds and is committed to providing the structure, consistency, exercise, mental stimulation and social interaction these incredibly smart dogs need.

Her “job” doesn’t have to involve apprehending criminals or protecting national security. She would be perfectly happy hiking, learning new commands, doing obedience work, playing enrichment games, going on adventures or simply being actively involved in her family’s daily life.

What she doesn’t want is to spend her life bored and under-stimulated.

Give Xena leadership, engagement and a purpose, and she has everything it takes to become that incredibly loyal German Shepherd who thinks her humans hung the moon.

A fully fenced, secure yard is required.

Xena is currently being fostered in Texas but available to transport to approved adopter in the Midwest, Northeast and Canada.

$400 Adoption fee includes vaccinations, Spay/Neuter, microchip, deworming,
$300 fee for Transport and vet/documentation requirements in preparation for transport.
