Maverick #7 | 3-year-old Chihuahua mix | Your under-the-covers cuddle buddy

Maverick is a sweet, snuggly little guy who is just starting to come into his own. At 11 pounds, he’s the perfect size for lap time—and he fully agrees, especially if there’s a blanket involved. He loves to burrow under the covers, rest his head on you, and soak up all the affection he can get. He’s also got a playful side that’s emerging more each day, recently discovering the joy of plush toys and playtime with other small dogs.

Maverick does great on a leash and enjoys his walks, making him an easy companion for daily outings. He has a medium energy level—happy with a couple of short walks or play sessions each day, followed by plenty of time to relax. He’s nearly house trained and will stand by the door to let you know when he needs to go out. When left home alone (with another dog), he may whine a bit at first but settles in after a short time.

He gets along well with dogs his size and would likely do best with a similarly sized canine companion. He was initially a bit unsure around larger dogs but is adjusting with time. Maverick is friendly and social with new people and doesn’t show a preference for men or women—he’s happy to love everyone.

Like many dogs adjusting to a new environment, Maverick can be a little nervous at times and has shown some mild resource guarding with food and his person, but he’s already making great progress with structure and consistency. He’s food-motivated, which will be helpful as he continues learning commands and building confidence.

Maverick’s ideal home would be one that can continue to support his growth, provide clear structure, and, most importantly, offer plenty of snuggles. A home with another small dog would be a big plus, as would a patient adopter who understands that some behaviors may continue to improve with time and consistency. A yard is nice, but not necessary, as he walks well on leash.

He is currently being treated for some itchy skin and mild hair loss, and his care team is working to find the best solution to keep him comfortable.

If you’re looking for a loving, cuddly companion who’s equal parts sweet and silly, Maverick might just be your guy.

If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives! A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you.

The adoption fee for this pet is $400. Our adoption fee covers the following:

Spay/neuter

Microchip

DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog.

Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog.

Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption.

PLEASE NOTE: The breed listed is the information we've received from the shelter. Shelters usually guess at the breed, so there is no guarantee, as we don't DNA test our foster pets. Here is some interesting info on breed identification: https://arrcolorado.org/category/puppy-dog-tips/

Our adoption process is:

1. Fill out our Adoption Application online. We'll contact you within 48 hours to answer any questions you may have about the pet.

2. If the pet looks like a great match, we'll schedule a meet and greet and ask you to fill out our online Adoption Agreement if you'd like to proceed with adopting. Once you've completed the Adoption Agreement and pay the pet's Adoption Fee, you can arrange to pick up your new furry family member!
