Luca - Chihuahua and Corgi Dog Available for Adoption in Boulder, Colorado

Meet Luca! Luca is an adorable, 10 month old, 15 lb Chihuahua/Corgi mix (he may top out around 18 lbs full grown, but could be done growing right where he is now).

This sweet boy was found as a stray alongside another little dog in Houston, TX and brought into a very scary, high-kill shelter. Thankfully, we were able to get both pups out just in time, and now Luca is on his way to Colorado to start the life he’s always deserved.

Luca is everything you love about a young dog - playful, curious, and full of life! He has that fun, goofy puppy energy and will thrive in a home that’s excited to continue his training, socialization, and adventures. While he may be just a tiny bit shy at first (understandably, given all the recent changes in his world), it doesn’t take long at all for his true personality to shine through. Once he warms up, he’s a friendly, affectionate, and joyful little guy.

Luca loves other dogs! He absolutely loves having canine companions and gains confidence from them. While he was found and fostered with another dog, they are not a bonded pair and can be adopted separately. That said, Luca would do best in a home with another friendly dog to play with and learn from - it really helps him feel secure and brings out his best self.

Luca is ready for a fresh start with a loving family who will give him the patience, structure, and fun that every young pup needs. In return, he’ll bring endless smiles, tail wags, and companionship.

Farfel's Rescue and our Texas rescue partners would love to see Luca in a home with an individual, family (older kids are preferred so there's no tail-pulling or awkward handling) or active retirees who have the time and love for a very loyal and sweet dog. We'd hate to see him left alone all day while his family works full-time outside of the home, as he is much too social for that type of arrangement.

We'd like to place Luca in a home where he'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and love. A (virtual or in-person) positive reinforcement group training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence. Training is so important in the future behaviors of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area.

Luca is up to date on his vaccinations, has been fully vetted, is healthy, heartworm negative, and is neutered.

Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.

Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year.

Farfel’s Farm & Rescue was founded on the idea that each dog deserves a loving home and the chance for a happy life. We are so thrilled to be able to rescue these amazing dogs from urgent situations in Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas and Cancun, Mexico. Working with a dedicated team of volunteers, the dogs are pulled from high-kill shelters because they’ve been recognized for the gifts they will bring to a loving family. They are then transported by specially licensed vans to Colorado for a second chance at life. The dogs are evaluated and treated for any medical issues before being transitioned to their new family, where they can become accustomed to having a family’s love, a warm bed and plenty of healthy food!
