Dexter is an 3 year old, 8 lb Chihuahua. He is a sweet, but timid young guy who is making sense of all the big changes in his life right now, including losing his home and finding himself in a shelter environment. He can be a bit shy at first, but once he realizes he's safe, his gentle, affectionate personality shines through quickly and he warms up beautifully to his people.

Dexter came to us from a shelter in New Mexico after his owner sadly passed away. He was surrendered alongside about 8 other dogs he had been living with. Given the circumstances and the condition of the group, it’s likely Dexter previously came from a situation more like an unregulated breeding environment. The good news is that he is now safely out of that life and getting the chance to start fresh.

Dexter also does wonderfully with other dogs and seems to take comfort and confidence from their presence. With a patient, loving home, he is going to blossom into an incredibly devoted little companion.

Dexter is up to date on his vaccinations, has been fully vetted, is healthy, heartworm negative, and is neutered.

Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.

The Chihuahua is a small breed famous for its confidence, loyalty, and big personality, despite its tiny size. They come in a variety of coat colors and patterns, with both long and short coats, making them a diverse and adorable addition to any family.

Farfel’s Farm & Rescue was founded on the idea that each dog deserves a loving home and the chance for a happy life. We are so thrilled to be able to rescue these amazing dogs from urgent situations in Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas and Cancun, Mexico. Working with a dedicated team of volunteers, the dogs are pulled from high-kill shelters because they’ve been recognized for the gifts they will bring to a loving family. They are then transported by specially licensed vans to Colorado for a second chance at life. The dogs are evaluated and treated for any medical issues before being transitioned to their new family, where they can become accustomed to having a family’s love, a warm bed and plenty of healthy food!
