Who needs a cupcake when you have this MUFFIN?
Maverick Muffin is a 2-year-old (on 7/15) Black Lab mix, approximately 60 pounds. He was found as a stray in Mississippi and is ready to find his family.
Maverick is gentle, sweet, and playful, with a love for fetch and soccer balls ball is life! He's done beautifully with his foster dog sibling and every doggy friend he's met. He would thrive with a canine companion or regular access to friendly pups for play and connection. He is also a treat catching champion, and prefers them tossed! He is fully crate trained and house trained. He walks well on a leash.
He may be shy at first, but once he warms up, this boy is pure joy leaning in for ear rubs, making you laugh with his goofy antics, and settling in beside you in the evening with a chew or stuffed Kong. His southern foster noted he is gentle and attentive with dog-savvy kids who can read his cues and give him space if he gets nervous. He's not the right fit for very young children.
Mavericks perfect adopter has a soft spot for sensitive dogs and genuinely loves watching them come out of their shell. They understand that true rescue means going at his pace, letting him adjust to new spaces, new people, and new routines on his own timeline, without pressure. Despite his sensitivities, he wont worry if you work outside the home.
Maverick will thrive with an adopter committed to continuing his training. Especially one that understands chasing a ball can be more fun than eating a treat!
A quick health update: Maverick had surgery for a luxating patella on May 6, 2026, and is healing beautifully. He cant wait to get back to his goofy antics.
All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
