Meet Claire: Canine Academy Award Winner

If you're looking for a loyal companion who will make you smile and occasionally remind you that petting her is clearly the MOST important thing on your to-do list, Claire is ready to report for duty.

Claire is a 5-year-old, tri-color 20-pound beagle who has perfected two important life skills: looking adorable and convincing humans she hasn't been petted in at least three weeks.

Don't be fooled by this petite girl. She is, in fact, well loved. She's simply an accomplished actress.

Her greatest talent is those soulful beagle eyes. Claire has convinced more than one person that she is suffering from a serious shortage of ear scratches and belly rubs. Miraculously, she makes a full recovery every single time.

Claire is the perfect age—past the puppy craziness but far from old. Most days she's content hanging out wherever her people are, quietly keeping them company. But outside in the yard, when another takes off doing zoomies, she joins in with her own spectacular version, tearing around the yard like she's just remembered an appointment she forgot three years ago.

She's an easy little dog to live with. Claire walks beautifully on a leash, is crate trained, and is potty trained using a dog door. She gets along well with other dogs and would probably enjoy having a canine buddy, though she'd also be OK as an only dog.

Claire hasn't met cats or children yet, so we can't say how she'd feel about them. As with any dog, slow introductions are always the best plan. She is gentle, attentive, and able to “read the room” well, so we wouldn't expect too many problems.

Claire is spayed, up-to-date with vaccinations, and microchipped. She is being treated for heartworm disease, though, but she will be ready for a new home by late August. Her foster home is in Southeast Nebraska, which is halfway between Omaha and Kansas City. Her foster mom is willing to travel to meet up.
