Meet Chancellor — “Chance”
Look at this HUNK! Chancellor, affectionately known as Chance, is a stunning blue merle standard Australian Shepherd with gorgeous heterochromia—one of those handsome boys who definitely knows how to turn heads! Chance is approximately 3 years old and currently weighs about 51 pounds. He arrived in rescue with another Aussie, Bishop, after the two boys were found as strays running at large. Sadly, they were in rough shape when they came to us—dirty, matted, smelly, with extremely long nails and collars that appeared to have been on their necks for a very long time. We suspect they may have come from a breeding situation and were eventually discarded.
There is still quite a bit of mystery surrounding Chance's past, but what we do know is this: he deserves the opportunity to discover what life is like when someone is patient, kind, and committed to him.
Chance is very interested in other dogs and enjoys their company, but he is slower to warm up to people. He isn't going to walk into your home and immediately declare you his new best friend. Instead, he's going to need some time to decompress, observe his surroundings, and decide that you are someone he can trust. And honestly? We think watching Chance discover his personality is going to be pretty special.
His ideal adopter will be someone who is Aussie-savvy, patient, and willing to build a relationship before asking for anything in return. Trust comes first. Once Chance understands that he is safe and his people can be trusted, then you can begin introducing basic obedience and helping him gain confidence. We think Chance also needs a physically fenced yard.
We believe Chance would do well with a more submissive female dog who can provide him with some canine companionship and confidence. He could also thrive as an only dog where he can focus on developing a strong bond with his person. Chance is crate trained, and his crate is his safe space. He will need a crate in his forever home, especially during his transition period, so he always has a place to retreat when he needs some quiet time. He is also potty trained and is a wonderful leash walker. And this boy LOVES to sniff! Give him a leash and some time to explore, and he is one happy guy.
Chance can be a little head shy with new people, and quick hand movements can make him nervous. But he has discovered an important truth in life: cheese and steak are excellent ways to make friends. With patience, yummy treats, and a gentle approach, he begins to warm up and show you more of who he really is. Chance isn't looking for someone who expects perfection on day one. He's looking for someone who sees his potential and thinks, “Let's take this one step at a time.”
If you're an Aussie-savvy person who would love the opportunity to watch a beautiful, cautious boy slowly come out of his shell and become the confident companion we know is hiding inside, Chance might just be your guy. His story may have started with a lot of unanswered questions, but we're hoping his next chapter will be filled with safety, trust, adventure, and a human he can finally call his own.
Chancellor is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccinations, negative for tick-borne diseases, dewormed, groomed, and maintained on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.
