If only Athenah could talk... we imagine she would have quite a story to tell. This beautiful girl has experienced a heartbreaking chapter in her life, and now she is ready for something much simpler: a person of her very own to love, trust, and spend her days with. She witnessed something that no family member should witness; her human committed suicide while she was home.

Athenah recently turned 6 and weighs approximately 55 pounds. She is a stunning red merle Australian Shepherd with a beautiful soul to match. After everything she has been through, she is looking for a fresh start with someone who understands that trust takes time—and is willing to let her write the next chapter at her own pace.

Athenah is what we would call a professional companion. She isn't looking to be the life of the party or the center of attention. She'd much rather be your quiet sidekick—sitting beside you on the front porch, keeping you company while you enjoy your morning coffee, or joining you for a peaceful evening stroll.

She is an independent, middle-aged gal who appreciates the finer things in life: a comfortable spot, a calm environment, and a human she can count on. Her ideal home would be a slower-paced household with no children under the age of 12.

Athenah is crate trained, house trained, and has wonderful house manners. She currently spends time in a doggie daycare environment and has decided that her favorite daycare activity is... observing. She is perfectly content sitting quietly in the corner, watching all the action unfold around her. She doesn't need to be in the middle of the party—she's happy to be the audience.

Athenah isn't the type of dog who will insist on being in your lap or glued to your side. She's more of a “I'll sit over here and keep you company” kind of girl. She needs someone who will give her the time and space to build a relationship and learn that her new person is someone she can trust.

And once she does? We think you'll have a pretty wonderful sidekick.

Athenah is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all vaccinations and receiving monthly prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworms. She does require a committed adopter who is willing to devote 1 - 2 hours of mental and physical stimulation per day.
