Tommy - Tuxedo and Domestic Short Hair Cat for Adoption in Vaughan, Ontario

Tommy had been a member of a managed cat colony, and was trapped neutered and returned to his habitat in 2021 when he was around 2 years old. In January of 2026, this smart boy walked into his colony caretaker's house on his own steam to get the care he needed when he became ill, and stayed on to begin the next chapters of his life, putting his roaming days behind him.

Tommy spent most of his time as a colony cat exploring the neighbourhood and relaxing in the sun, not ranging far from his feeding station. He is a quiet cat and rarely meows. Although he may not be overly affectionate or clingy — he was a colony cat after all, and caution was necessary as part of his survival — he does like to initiate contact when he is familiar and has accepted your scent by rubbing up against your legs. Gentle pets on the head and back can be accomplished if approached slowly and calmly, as this watchful and guarded boy has distinct signals and prefers to be the one to determine when he would like to receive affection. If you're feeding him, he will show his appreciation by rubbing up against your hands.

His time outdoors for so long means he has some chronic congestion. His foster mom uses a humidifier to help and sometimes the old-fashioned warm-wet-washcloth-over-the-nose method does the trick! He does not seem to mind, and she thinks he appreciates the help. He has been through many rounds of medications and treatments for his congestion, but it is so far unable to be permanently resolved.

He eats his wet food well (though can be a little fussy about brands and flavours) and has good litterbox habits.

Tommy enjoys watching the outside through the window screen and loves getting cat treats, which can be an easy way to initiate and cement the friendship. This quiet, self-possessed ex-tom could continue his new life as a solo kitty, or will likely get along with another sedate and social cat happy to have a calm, undemanding cat buddy. One thing we understand about Tommy, he is smart, resilient and decisive, a cat who knows what he wants and how to go about getting the help he needs. He is ready for a family who will give him the space and time to settle down and be fully integrated, so the next chapters of his life will be written in peace and quiet joy.

Our adoption fees cover vetting and include spay/neuter, vaccines (initial FVRCP and rabies), flea treatment, two dewormings and microchipping.

Adoption fees are $250 for each adult cat 1 year or older. Please note that fees may apply for additional required vaccinations (at $75 per booster) due prior to adoption. Total adoption fees will be confirmed by the AVA Adoption Coordinator.
