Joy - Domestic Short Hair Cat for Adoption in Pickering, Ontario

With her long slender legs, lean frame and big doe eyes, Joy looks like a feline version of the 60’s model Twiggy. She is a sweet and resilient girl who was rescued from a horrific hoarding situation where 65 unfixed cats were kept in a filthy, flea-ridden house and given inadequate food and no veterinary care.

When Joy came into AVA's care, she was scrawny, flea-bitten and scared, but after a trip to the vet to get spayed, vaccinated, checked out and treated for fleas, along with some good food and TLC, she is starting to fill out, her flea bites are healed, her fur is soft and glossy, her big eyes are bright and best of all, she hasn’t lost her trust in people. She's a happy, healthy girl who is ready to find her home and start enjoying the good life.

Having been starved for attention in her former home, Joy loves being with people and getting attention, especially pets and chin rubs. With proper introductions, Joy gets along with other friendly cats, although she would be okay on her own too where she can get lots of one-on-one attention. She has not been tested with dogs. She has good litterbox habits.

Joy may give a warning swat when she gets overstimulated so would not be a good fit in a home with young children. She will do best in a relatively calm home with people who understand that it may take her some time to settle in and who will give her the support and attention she needs to feel safe and cared for. Her strong desire for affection and play will help her warm up quickly and soon she will be her sunny self.

Our adoption fees cover vetting and include spay/neuter, vaccines (initial FVRCP and rabies), flea treatment, two de-worming treatments and microchipping.

Adoption fees are $250 for each adult cat 1 year or older. Please note that fees may apply for additional required vaccinations (at $75 per booster) due prior to adoption. Total adoption fees will be confirmed by the AVA Adoption Coordinator.
