Leroy - Domestic Short Hair and Tabby Cat for Adoption in Greensboro, North Carolina

Leroy, born approximately 4/30/2026, is a handsome classic tabby boy with distinctive swirly markings and a personality that is slowly revealing itself one little milestone at a time.

Leroy missed that crucial early window for socialization, so he is still learning that humans can be trusted. Thankfully, both his mom and dad are good natured cats, so we are hopeful the apple will not fall far from the tree as Leroy continues to blossom. His foster family takes things very slowly and lets him set the pace, and his confidence is growing beautifully.

Leroy is highly food motivated, which has become one of his greatest tools for building trust. Consistent training with timed treats such as Greenies in his adoptive home can help him continue making positive associations with people. He has already learned to come running when he hears a high pitched kitty kitty kitty call or the familiar jingle of a feather wand with a bell.

Food is also where Leroys brave little personality really comes out. If you are eating, his carefully constructed wall of shyness can come tumbling down completely. Suddenly he is right in your face, determined to help himself to a share of your meal. Push him away and he will simply return for another attempt. He is also extremely vocal around food, meowing and meowing even when he has just eaten. The more you look at him and remind him that he just ate, the louder his commentary becomes. It is honestly pretty hilarious.

When the house is quiet, Leroy is happy to settle down near your feet. He genuinely likes being around people and wants to be part of the household. He simply is not comfortable being held or restrained right now. That may change with time, or it may always be part of who he is, and his foster family is committed to allowing him to progress at his own pace. Interestingly, he is remarkably cooperative when it comes to having his claws trimmed while being held.

Leroy would make a wonderful companion for another cat and can happily coexist with cat friendly dogs. A home with a dog who guards food would not be a safe match unless Leroy and the dog can always be fed separately behind closed doors, including meals, chews, treats, and toys containing food.

Leroy has absolutely no desire to be an outdoor adventurer. He seems happiest and safest inside, where he can enjoy his cozy routines and continue learning that home is a good place to be. If he ever accidentally gets outside, his adopter should be prepared to trap him because fear would likely keep him from coming out on his own.

Leroy is not looking for someone who expects an instant lap cat. He is looking for an experienced and patient cat person who understands that trust is earned in tiny moments. Give him time, consistency, treats, playtime, and a safe place to blossom, and this beautiful swirly boy just might surprise you with how much love he has been waiting to share.

Our adoption fee is $100 for each cat 6 months and older, $150 if you adopt two 6+ month-old cats at the same time. $125 for each kitten, $200 for two kittens adopted at the same time. That fee includes spay or neuter, microchipping (we register the chip for you), testing for FeLV (Feline Leukemia) and/or FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus), current, age-appropriate vaccinations, flea treatment and deworming. All adoptees receive an exit exam from one of our veterinarians before going home.

NO RISK! Adoption fee is refundable for two weeks to make sure you've found a match for your household. Even after two-week period, we'll take the adopted cat back for any reason.

Come to our adoption fairs, held every second and fourth Saturday at Sheets Pet Clinic (809 Chimney Rock Court, Greensboro, NC, 27409) from 1-3pm, unless the Saturday falls on an observed holiday. At the clinic on those days, you can visit sometimes 40 kittens/cats at one time, interact with them in a quiet environment, spend as much time as you like with them in exam rooms.
