Hi, my name is Mister Cheeks! I'm a PURPLE pawprint, which means I will fit well into a home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:
-Personality: Vocal, affectionate, active, curious
-Can Live with Cats: Mister Cheeks is FIV+, so would do best in a home with another FIV+ kitty or as a single cat. Slow/supervised introductions always recommended.
-Can Live with Dogs: Unknown history - likely ok with slow/supervised introductions.
-Can Live with Kids: Unknown history - recommending cat savvy, respectful kids. Up to counselor's discretion.
-Needs Indoor Only Home: Yes - Mister Cheeks is FIV+ and needs to be an indoor only kitty. Mister Cheeks is easily bored and would do best in a home that can give him plenty of variety in his life (ie. toys to play with, windows to perch out of, interactive food dispensers, an enclosed catio).
-History of Litter Box Issues: No
-Energy Level: Medium/High
-Bite History: No - although Mister Cheeks does give love nips ;)
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: Yes, neuter/MC.
Meet Mister Cheeks - a BIG BOY who's ready to give someone a whole bunch of love. Mister Cheeks spent his first couple of days at WHS very opinionated about being here - he was constantly meowing, trying to get out of his kennel, and obviously upset and confused. After a few days of winning him over, with lots of squeezy treats and cheek scritches, Mister Cheeks rewarded us with his sweet and quirky side. He started rolling over onto his side, making biscuits with his gigantic paws, and even started to affectionately drool, which might be the cutest thing about him! Mister Cheeks would do best in a cat savvy home with plenty of places to explore and ideally an enclosed catio for him to get his outdoor fix. We think Mister Cheeks had been outside for quite a while before making his way here, so it may take him a little longer to adjust to an indoor only lifestyle. Mister Cheeks did test positive for FIV, which means he'll need to be an indoor only kitty and live with other cats who are also FIV+. Cats with FIV can live long, normal, and happy lives - they just sometimes require more regular vet visits and attention to ensure they're healthy. We're sure that Mister Cheeks is going to make a great companion for whoever adopts him. We always recommend giving new animals plenty of time to adjust to their new routine and to expect things to take him. If you're interested in adopting Mister Cheeks or have any questions about what it's like to have a cat with FIV, please fill out an application!
If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
